We were lucky to catch up with Bryan Kurzman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bryan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me was telling me that I couldn’t do something. Earlier in my life, this is mostly what I heard inside my home and at school. At the time, it was debilitating and dictating and forged a series of clear paths to ‘can’t and won’t’ mentality that dominated my actions and assisted me in making poor decisions and achieving terrible results. I was relegated to listening to the negative as the proper narrative of my life, as I knew nothing different, and assumed this was my path until, through the course of introspective evaluation, I was able to break free of these chains and work towards making the important and life-altering site-adjustment of turning a “can’t and won’t” mantra in to “CAN and WILL” reality mindset, which marked the beginning of an important life and business journey that I have been on since this adjustment. I harbored anger and resentment for many years to those who impeded my path initially with the malice of their words and actions, however over the years have come to realize that they – in fact – blessed me with the greatest gift I could have ever asked for by doing so, as without this experience, I would not be in the position with the values, achievements and understanding I have today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started in sales at the age of 12, selling souvenirs at historic Fenway Park in Boston. This was trial by fire, and a tough environment, as dealing with the Boston faithful at Fenway was certainly not for the faint of heart, however proved to be a great way to cut my teeth in the world of sales. I started my first business at the age of 16, and started working in professional hockey negotiating sales contracts at the age of 18, A decade later, I entered the world of financial sales, and after 40 years of being in the sales field – and having achieved National Top 1% Sales Producer honors – I was looking for a new mountain to climb. I understood the time was right to pursue what I felt was my calling at this point in my career, and started working on my latest business venture in sales: launching my Sales Coaching, Training and Consulting company, AdviseMOR. After spending the bulk of 2023 taking business classes at UMASS and working with an Executive Coach to prepare for the launch of AdviseMOR, I am happy to say the company is up, running and working with sales agents from a variety of backgrounds who are interested in advancing their sales careers, and turning in to Top 1% producers.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my client base – for ANYONE in sales to grow their client base – is to operate from a position of AUTHENTICITY. Being your authentic self is THE most crucial element ANY sales person or business owner can do. Doing anything other than this will 100% lead to failure, no questions asked. If you are anything other than completely authentic, sooner or later, the bottom of what you are doing will fall out and failure will set in.
Being my authentic self has absolutely been the #1 asset I have in business and sales, and this is the core principle/most effective strategy I have for growing my client base.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 1995 I had to drop out of college. I simply could not afford the tuition anymore. I was on fumes financially and overextend mentally. This bothered me tremendously for many years, however work, family and a variety of other challenges prohibited me from reconciling this. After 30 years of toiling with this incompleteness, I was determined to solve this issue. I researched what it would take to re-engage in my University studies, made calls, sent emails, asked for advise and from there, created a plan, enrolled and executed. 12 months after re-starting this process that I had not completed some 3 decades earlier, I am proud to say I am a college graduate, having earned/received my college degree in Management from the University of Massachusetts. The process certainly was not easy, however it was much easier than living with the incomplete results I had previously earning by not having finished what I started.
