We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bryan “Harvest Blaque” Hancock. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bryan “Harvest Blaque” below.
Alright, Bryan “Harvest Blaque” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am very happy with being able to use my gifts and It took a lot of work to get here. I’ve worked so many jobs that were essential to the hustle of getting me to evolve and pour into my dream of being a performer. I feel there is levels to it and through the highs and lows you must make room for your personal evolution and embrace your gift. There is a big difference between gifted and talented. A lot of people have talent but gifted people have a remarkable way of saying who they are, why they are, and why you should be listening to them right now. I am embracing my voice and those questions.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Name is Bryan “Harvest Blaque Hancock”. I am a Hip-Hop/Slam Poetry artist, Writer, Comedian, and Host of the eight year poetry show “Soul Sessions Roanoke. I also am a Hip-Hop history and music technology teacher for The Jefferson Center and I have an artistic residency for Carilion Robert Keeley Healing Arts where I use creative writing and hip-hop as a pedagogy to help in areas of grief and loss and adolescents in psychiatric care. I am also part of the legendary Big Lick Conspiracy improv comedy troupe. I am an all around artist who is passionate about evolving and telling my story through music and poetry. I am grateful that I am able to use my gifts in many areas.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I enjoy the exploration of my evolving story and purpose with sharing my art. I love being able to have people enjoy whatever I am working on although I really create for myself. I look back and I know God has brought me this far for a reason so I am really passionate about being able to leave it all on the floor whether I am performing music, making someone laugh, or teaching.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
We need less critics and more people willing to listen and be able to get into a human experience. Everyone has a gift but it is up to us to choose it and know that we have options. Artist can only thrive through exploration and finding out internally what sets them apart.
