We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bryan Hadley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bryan below.
Bryan, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The Academy of Independent Motion Pictures (6 Governors on its Board) is so vested in and deeply value EACH film work that is submitted for a chance to win a Percy, annually. Each project or effort is just as meaningful as the other because we know the incredible effort, thought and, most likely, lack of funding it took to make a particular independent film. We also highly value film works with a large budget and/or “name” actors/actresses, for example; however, we deeply believe and follow The Percy’s Golden Rule: All projects are as meaningful as the other in some capacity and quite simply .. THE BEST performance wins a PERCY.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The Academy of Independent Motion Pictures and The PERCY Award for Film is now in its 3rd year, and was founded by Austin actor and Texas filmmaker Bryan N. Hadley. AIMP Governors Tammy Thrasher Mitchell, Neil Ames, Tiffany Holmes White, Veronica Obregon, Cesar Diaz and Hadley make up the Board. The AIMP Board was formulated by Hadley to possess two crucial aspects which as a sum are different than just about any film award board in the USA: Have board members who possess rich knowledge and deep experience in acting, filmmaking and film production but also have some board members who are not as deeply experienced in the film industry but have rich experience in the creative arts or creative communications and are also huge fans of cinema, and can judge a work of film accurately. That’s to say .. we know a truly great performance when we see it and we do not care the budget or the agency you are tied to professionally. We respect it but we don’t allow that non factor to come into the thinking of how we judge a film work.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Purity of performance in film. Should a “name” win a PERCY in a particular category over a “no name,” even if the “no name” performs an acting role in better fashion? We think absolutely not. And within the same stream of topic, if the “name” actress or big budget film is better in performance .. then, this performance is BEST and should take home a PERCY. This is our guiding goal each PERCY award season. What does the aforementioned cognitive process and guidance create as a goal? A much better palette of film that awards pure performance and not politics.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Support and watch and stream truly independent film and all film, big budget or not. Corporate acting and corporate films are great but if you find time to notice other artists and film works that are not known, you will realize they are just as good and, at times, even better as performance artists and/or pieces of film.
