We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bryan Gomillion. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bryan below.
Bryan, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking a risk was on of the hardest things I had to endure when pursuing my career path. There are many obstacles that will constantly arise. You have to be able to put every single aspect of your life to the side at one point and truly make it become your entire life. Your friends won’t understand, but realizing that the reward is always worth the risk will show you a new part of life that most people are afraid to enter. Over time I slowly realized that you will never stop encountering moments of weighing out if the risk is worth it, but I can say I’m living proof that hard work and believing in yourself enough will open up endless doors of opportunity.
Bryan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well my name is The Breadman Lives. I am an Recording/Mix Engineer and Music Producer. My pursuit in a music based career has been something I’ve dreamt of since I was a little kid. My father was a drummer, so I ended up following in his footsteps and then went from drummer, to DJ to where I am now. I had quite the journey getting to this point and feel as though my story is one that one day needs to be fully told a little more in depth. Until then I continue to use my insane hunger and desire to help others create the best music they possibly can by making sure everything we record or work on is done with extreme precision and care. I pride myself in being both quick but also efficient in my craft and always make sure that the people I work with feel confident in not only my work but the work that we’ve created together as a team.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Oh this is a fun one…When I first started my journey into the Recording Studio world I thought I had a good grasp on what went into making and recording music and even thought I knew a little thing or two about mixing vocals. That was quickly laid to rest when I began researching and then eventually being formally trained at a very well know Studio in the Seattle area. I had to basically put everything I knew to the side and start back at square one with an open mind, but was pleasantly surprised when I was able to finally combine my previous knowledge with my now new set of skills. This mindset helped me better under what I needed to learn and that there is never a time to stop learning, especially in the world of music, as we are always growing in many facets from the technology we use to record and mix songs with, to the new styles artists are constantly coming up with.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding part of what I do is being able to help someone finally bring their dreams and creations to life. There’s no greater reward for me than the feeling of seeing someone being excited to play a song we recorded together over and over because of how proud they are of it. There are so many “layers” to creating a song that people don’t even know about, and to be at one of the starting points of that gives me a great sense of purpose in what I do. Without someone recording their ideas, their just thoughts turned into words on paper or in their head. After we record and put everything together its amazing to think how those words or thoughts can now be heard and felt by the listeners.
