Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to BRUNA CABRAL. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
BRUNA, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
“Piece of Me,” Headway,” and “Everything Has Carbs” are incredibly meaningful projects, personally, that showcase the power of storytelling to bring emotions and create impactful narratives.
“Piece of Me” is particularly close to my heart as it delves into the challenging topic of Alzheimer’s disease. Through the eyes of an 8-year-old, we explore the beauty of life’s little moments before confronting the harsh realities of Alzheimer’s. The film immerses viewers in the unexpectedness and helplessness of the disease, prompting important conversations and raising awareness about its effects. The portrayal of characters like Dylan and Mrs. Brooks allows us to witness their genuine bond, adding depth and authenticity to the story.
On the other hand, “Headway” brings together diverse themes such as autism and retirement, highlighting the complexities of human experiences. By merging the journeys of an eleven-year-old boy and a late 30’s MMA fighter, the film offers a profound exploration of friendship, resilience, and finding solutions to overcome challenges. The convergence of these stories creates a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences and encourages empathy and understanding.
“Everything has carbs” follows the little girl Marleigh, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This is a day in her life when she navigates the challenges of keeping her blood sugar within the safe range while still enjoying food and having fun with her family.
All are a testament to the power of cinema to inspire, educate, and touch hearts. They address important issues, celebrate human connections, and contribute to meaningful conversations within our society. As a filmmaker, I am committed to creating projects that have a lasting impact and contribute positively to the world of storytelling.
BRUNA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Bruna Cabral, and I’d love to share my journey with you. I’m from Rio de Janeiro but based in Los Angeles. I embarked on a transition from a legal career at one of the world’s leading media networks, alongside exceptional colleagues in a dream company, to pursue my true passion for production. After realizing my heart belonged elsewhere, I decided to step away. Stepping away from a talented team and a secure role was challenging, but my passion for the Entertainment Industry ultimately led me to take that step. This transition was fueled by a desire to explore the art of production and engage in storytelling that resonates deeply with emotions. Through years of effort and a thirst for knowledge, I pursued degrees in Business and Management of Entertainment, Producing, and Directing from UCLA.
The milestone of my directorial debut with the short film “PIECE OF ME” remains burned in my memory as a pivotal moment. The film’s heartfelt portrayal of Alzheimer’s, seen through the lens of an 8-year-old, touched many hearts and received acclaim at esteemed festivals, including the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, an Academy Awards Qualifying Film Festival.
My commitment to crafting authentic characters and delving into the complexities of human connections sets my work apart. I aspire to create narratives that resonate on a profound level. My involvement in supporting female filmmakers through festivals like the Hollywood Women’s Film Institute and La Femme International Film Festival is a testament to my belief in the power of diverse voices in our industry.
I approach my work with gratitude, cherishing every opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals worldwide. Through storytelling, I strive to inspire, evoke emotions, and ignite meaningful conversations within the industry and society.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a producer is the ability to inspire and educate people through impactful storytelling. It’s incredibly fulfilling to touch people’s hearts and minds with meaningful content. Working alongside brilliant and passionate minds, collaborating in diverse locations, and connecting with people from around the world enriches the creative process and fosters valuable relationships. Every project brings the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, and contribute to a shared passion for storytelling, making the journey as a producer incredibly gratifying.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely, there is a clear goal and mission driving my creative journey. I am deeply passionate about working on projects that carry a meaningful message and have the potential to educate and inspire audiences. One of my missions is to continue raising awareness about important topics like Alzheimer’s and autism, as I have seen the beautiful responses and impact such storytelling can have. So, my goal is to produce a movie about epilepsy to raise awareness about this disability, which I’ve experienced since I was 19 years old. Additionally, I aim to create a collaborative project co-produced by Brazil and the US, bridging cultures and perspectives through filmmaking and a short film animation about life transitions within a family.
Moreover, my goal is to collaborate with individuals whom I admire and respect, fostering an environment of mutual growth and learning. I would like to work and elevate women’s narratives in this male-dominated industry. I am passionate about bringing more female stories to life and believe in the immense power of storytelling to reshape cultures and influence how women navigate the world.
I believe collaboration is the key to unlocking new perspectives and creating impactful content that resonates with people on a profound level. Working together allows us to not only grow individually but also contribute to collective growth where everyone involved benefits from the shared experience.
