We were lucky to catch up with Bruce Gardner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bruce, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I was lucky to.have worked in the music industry at a very young age playing keyboard for local area bands and producing music for other artist. I also became a session musician for a production company that had several artists with lable deals, so i.learned about song splits, publishing royalties etc.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those that may not know, my name is
Bruce Gardner I’m a singer/songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and architect of The Bruce Gardner Experience a.k.a. The BGX Band. I was Born in a suburb of Maryland, I discovered my love of music at a young age listening to my family’s eclectic collection of old LP’s from all genres. In my teens I played with
local Washington DC area Go-Go music bands while interning as a recording engineer/producer at Bebop Productions Inc. where I earned my first professional recording credits as a producer and session musician working on the album “Plays With Toys” by Imago/Chrysalis recording artist BASEHEAD.
After working at other studios i got the knowledge a bravery to open out my own Production company, Juicebox Productions/GSV Studios, I landed credits for producing, writing and remixing for other artist such as Raheem DeVaughn, Profit Jones, Dennis Da Menace and Chink Santana to name a few.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I’ve learned is that you must embrace new trends and technologies that may help you further your reach and achieve your goals quicker, and dare I say easier. WIth the advancements in AI, the internet, social media platforms, and digital recording, you are able to increase your catalog and reach people globally without much cost if any. What I had to unlearn was the old way of doing things in regard to how you record, release, and market yourself as an artist. For exame, you don’t have to spend thousands in the studio anymore. You can achieve competitive, industry sound with an affordable DAW and some headphones. You don’t initially need a publicist of you have a knowledge of social sites. You can create content much quicker that will build your fan base. The old way of moving in the industry is fading. You have to learn some new tricks.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish that I knew more about the power of social media and AI technology and how you can use them to create content, share your stories, and release your art to the masses.
