We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bruce B. Gordon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bruce below.
Alright, Bruce thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
You’re welcome! And thanks for asking! I am thrilled to present the international release of “THANK YOU!” (An EDM Song of Gratitude to The Universe), by Bruce B. Gordon & Horatio Gordon, on all digital music platforms, designed to bathe you in DEVOTIONAL electronic musical sounds and lyrics!
I created it with my late fraternal twin brother, Horatio, who sadly passed in 2023 from heart surgery complications. Now, I want to honor our original aspiration to offer this INSPIRATIONAL EDM MUSIC to you and everyone you love eternally!
“Practicing DAILY GRATITUDE gives you an ATTITUDE that raises your WELLNESS ALTITUDE!”
Since practicing daily GRATITUDE is a powerful technique for boosting our mental health and happiness, cultivating a focus of APPRECIATION enhances our emotional and physical well-being. My company, Bruce Gordon Media wants to share this song with you as a practical MEDITATION tool to help you experience that power of living in Gratitude ALL YEAR ROUND, not just at Thanksgiving.
Did you know that researchers at the Mayo Clinic have actually discovered that EXPRESSING GRATITUDE is associated with a host of MENTAL & PHYSICAL BENEFITS? Yeah, feeling THANKFUL can improve sleep, mood & immunity. Pretty deep, huh? That’s right! They’ve found that GRATITUDE can decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain and risk of disease.
It’s always been our sincere hope that people listen to our song to supplement their THANKFULNESS reflections and meditations ALL 365 DAYS OF THE YEAR!
We created “THANK YOU” to help people practice gratitude, and now it’s available on all digital platforms for everyone to GET at: https://linktr.ee/brucegordonmedia and ADD TO PLAYLISTS!
Bruce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, I’m Bruce B. Gordon. As CEO of Bruce Gordon Media, LLC, I’m a consultant, social media creative, recording artist, voice actor, film director, screenwriter, producer, songwriter, visual artist and content creator. My films often include original songs and music productions in the soundtrack. Bruce Gordon Media has multiple feature film, TV, streaming and music projects in various stages of development. Here’s what I usually include in my bio:
When he moved to Los Angeles, Bruce B. Gordon transplanted the songwriting and music production talents he learned in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan very easily. After playing keyboards in the band on a TV award show, he worked on recording sessions and for various network TV music awards shows. His creative vision expanded to include the moving image.
A producing intern at Columbia Pictures (Sony), Bruce was one of six college students from 500 nationwide applicants selected that year to participate in observational research at Columbia Pictures Studios during summer break, where he shadowed VPs and other studio executives and inhabited sound stages and sets to examine corporate structure and coordination of talent/artists involved in the production and distribution of feature and TV films, taped TV programs and commercials. Weekly departmental assignments included: Story, Music, Post-Production, Publicity, Promotion and Sales. In front of the camera, Bruce acted in a supporting role for the ABC-TV network / Warner Bros. Studios / David Wolper-produced “Roots: The Next Generations” finale episode, starring James Earl Jones & Marlon Brando.
After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Bruce worked in Production Accounting (AP/Payroll) at Aaron Spelling Productions, where he also spent hundreds of hours on TV and film sets and studied the creative and financial processes for prime-time network, cable TV and feature production. While there, he performed independent talent scouting, resulting in day player casting on three ABC-TV network prime time shows.
Bruce wrote scripts and comedy material, selling to stars such as Joan Rivers. He also worked on the music video for “Partyman,” the second single from a soundtrack album based upon director Tim Burton’s Warner Bros. Studios “Batman” feature film; that video written, co-directed and performed by Warner Bros. Records artist: “Prince.”
Later, Bruce co-wrote the theme song for “Forgotten Heroes,” an independent feature film. On the post production side, Bruce worked for an international subtitle/dubbing post-production house (SDI), then for Warner Bros. Entertainment as a feature film and TV Digital Media Technician, creating iTunes VOD conversions of Warner Bros. Studios new releases and classics.
Bruce has written, directed, produced, photographed and/or edited many shorts, TV projects, commercials and Web promos. He updated his directing and cinematography skills with the latest, state-of-the-art digital cinema techniques and processes at The Los Angeles Film School, where he made his RED/DSLR-camera digital thesis film entitled “Whole ‘Nother Level.”
After being selected for the 2013 Festival de Cannes Court Métrage (Short Film Corner), “Whole ‘ ‘Nother Level ” screened at the 2013 Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai, India (after having screened in New Delhi, Agra, and Varanasi). It was also selected for screening at the February 2014 Festival des 24 Courts in Changé, France and it won two awards at the 2013 Hollywood & Vine Film Festival (Best Visual Effects in Short Film & Best Music in Short Film). It was selected to screen at the inaugural Los Angeles Independent Music/Film International Summit as well.
In May 2014 Bruce’s “Whole ‘ ‘Nother Level” was selected at the Festival Entr’2 Marches in Cannes, France; a disability-themed festival which takes place across town from and concurrently with the Festival de Cannes. Subtitled in French, the title is translated as: “Le Niveau Supèrieur.” A version with Spanish subtitles has also been created, and other languages will follow upon further requests.
“Whole ‘Nother Level” continued to garner international VOD distribution contracts, such as on Amazon Prime Video, multiple subscription-based online and in-app iOS, Android & Roku digital platforms. During its IndieFlix contract, public libraries in multiple states requested it for in their digital catalogs for download and streaming as high schools and colleges continuously selected it as required viewing for disability awareness education assignments.
In 2020, as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bruce Gordon Media’s short film “Whole ‘Nother Level” was made available for free to the international public on YouTube and Vimeo (the latter, ad-free), so as to be fully accessible to schools, libraries and disability-centric organizations to help raise awareness & support for people living with disabilities. (English dialogue, with optional French & Spanish subtitled versions).
With a strong passion for helping other creative artists achieve success, Bruce also works as a consultant, such as with filmmaker Toyin Ibrahim Adekeye’s feature documentary, “Bigger Than Africa.” After being invited to a score of festivals & screenings on FIVE CONTINENTS & in TENS OF COUNTRIES worldwide— including at the UNITED NATIONS— this award-winning, internationally-significant cultural film secured a 2022 worldwide-streaming deal with Netflix.
In 2023, Bruce was thrilled to release a new music project on all digital platforms, the single: “Thank You!” (An EDM Song of Gratitude to The Universe). “Thank You” is a vibrant dance track that goes beyond the conventional EDM experience. It’s designed to be a tool for practicing daily gratitude for happiness and well-being– all-year-round– and its elements of celebrating appreciation create a strong tie-in with the Thanksgiving and year-end holiday seasons. What also makes this song exceptional is that Bruce performs this song with his late fraternal twin brother and performing/songwriting/music production/publishing partner, Horatio (who sadly passed away from heart surgery complications in February, 2023), and Bruce released it to fulfill his brother’s dream of sharing this inspirational music with the world.
In February of 2024 “THANK YOU!” rocketed up to NUMBER ONE on TWO CHARTS at the Starfleet Music Pool of international DJs. It’s been added to a host of Spotify playlists by music curators across the globe and has garnered rave reviews by music blogs on multiple continents. Demographic metrics show its reach at 51 countries and counting….
Bruce is a firm believer in continuous improvement, and he practices by participating at A-list entertainment industry professional development events, such as the American Film Market (AFM), the Festival de Cannes Marché du Film Producers Workshop, Producers Guild of America (PGA) Produced by Conference & many others. He and his company (Bruce Gordon Media) are committed to creating quality entertainment that maximizes global audience engagement.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Well, at the core, I have an enduring passion for sharing ideas and telling stories of healing & recovery that can entertain international audiences, win critical awards, and have blockbuster success at the worldwide box office.
My company designs its ideas, filmed content & digital presence to bring people together via the unifying sensibilities of moderation and by focusing on our commonality as humans, as opposed to our individual differences. Telling stories and sharing ideas to help individuals discover and achieve the best versions of themselves is also a prime directive.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
So many obstacles to overcome throughout the years, but here’s one: First of all, I’d like to say something to my fellow losers here. Yeah, I said “losers.”
Because pretty late in life, when my e-Learning video business tanked after the 2008 recession, I did continuing education at L.A. Film School, hoping that my thesis film would catapult me into a lucrative career. But the project had technical, legal and other problems… and with the graduation deadline, I barely squeaked out a comprehensive story on screen. There would be no reshoots. No shot replacements. No scene additions. It was what it was. I submitted it to all the festivals that mattered.
NO film festival wanted it. ANYWHERE. Failure. Depression. Despair.
I prayed for Divine Guidance. Then I got ready to dump it into the YouTube “film school graveyard” so I could move on to the next thing and never give up creating.
But just when I was about to upload, I got an e-mail from the Festival de Cannes, saying they wanted it in their Cannes Court Métrage (Short Film Corner). They told me that, by participating, the “Cannes brand” would add a validation to my work that would make other international festivals & even distributors AUTOMATICALLY program it. They told me that if I came to the festival, they would give me the same accreditation as the big international film industry players and set me up with events for me to meet and learn from top film business professionals. They didn’t lie.
I went back to Cannes the next year with my wife, Dr. Gail Gordon (who’s an executive producer of our Cannes Court Métrage-selected short film: “Whole ‘Nother Level”). We both attended the Marché du Film’s Producer’s Workshop, among other events, including screening our short across town at the 2014 Festival Entr’2 Marches… a disability-themed festival which takes place concurrently with the Festival de Cannes. My film was selected in several other international festivals, awarded several distribution deals & was even placed in public libraries in multiple states.
I learned so much… and met so many people… that I decided to expand my vision to not just make films, but to create something much bigger: a STUDIO for making ALL FORMS of filmed entertainment. (In progress)
So…. Fellow “LOSERS”– if you’re feeling like your art is not being embraced… that your work is not being respected or appreciated… I encourage you to:
Plant EVERYWHERE you can. Water. Nurture. Study. Pray for that Divine Guidance. And watch the Universe turn your caterpillar into a butterfly.
Sincerely,
Bruce B. Gordon
