We recently connected with BrownGuy and have shared our conversation below.
BrownGuy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
I’ve only had a few jobs previous to becoming a self-employed director & only one of them taught me that networking is the biggest key to life as an entrepreneur.
I was working event security & close protection while still trying to figure out the whole “Videographer” route and my boss would tell me to network my business as much as I could while working. So I was able to network with venue owners, artists, managers, producers and so much more that helped me get to where I am today.
My biggest take away would be this – use every opportunity in life as an opportunity to elevate yourself.

BrownGuy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started in this industry by filming nightclubs and concerts and slowly go into music videos and music videos took off, and the whole reason I picked up a camera was that I wanted to film short films & documentaries on at-risk youth showing them how to turn a negative into a positive & that there are so many roads they can go down in life that will take them out of any and every bad situation they face..
I come from a single-mother household who faced homelessness on many occasions, Living in bad areas while my mom tried everything to give myself and my brother the best life she could possibly provide.. So the struggle was something I grew up facing, but you can always turn any negative situation into a positive situation with the right mindset, using that same concept picking up a camera I started filming nightclubs and concerts thanks to my friend MC Meeks & DJ Andre 905 they pushed me to learn and elevate – moving from nightlife into music videos this was my film school.. Music videos took off after I met an amazing artist who goes by the name of Blacka Da Don, he took me places I never thought was possible and helped me build my name and my brand.
Fast forward 10 years later from picking up a camera to working with some of the most amazing local and international artist’s in the world I couldn’t be more proud of myself and how far i’ve come, I’ve had the chance to meet and work with people I personally look up to an have looked upto my whole life such as; Jadakiss, Fabolous, Charly Black, Director X, Zac Facts and so many more.
My story is here to help others reckonize that with a little passion and meeting the right people anything is possible.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is creating.. being able to tell stories and trigger emotions from not only the artists we work with but the people who watch our art.
While we make a transition from Music Videos to Short Films we’re able to take all of the knowledge we’ve learned creating music videos to the creation of short films and trigger even more emotions from the people watching our art.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
What can society do to support artists & creatives? Firstly open up more affordable facilities where we all can create, watch the content they make, share it & show our friends and families. A share goes a long way.
Local governments could open up more funding for artists & creatives allowing them more time to create and progress. It’s simple really.
