We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brother King Cam a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brother, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think in order to become successful you need belief in God & yourself & the desire to overcome any & all obstacles in your way. There are going to be times along your journey where only you and God believe in the vision. And there are going to be obstacles that enter your path that seem impossible to get around. During those times are when you have to dig in and tap into the God within. When you face challenges the only way to get around them is by thinking through them. God didn’t give you a brain and you can’t solve problems. But this society is setup to kill your ability to think and problem solve and most people fail at that. The ability to think creatively and work through obstacles and believing in yourself & God helps you rise to the occasion when you feel defeated. Because in that belief is prayer. You must pray everyday so that you can keep your mind from being assaulted with negative thoughts. After you believe something you pray on it, ask the God to help you achieve and then you move out. These are what I think are keys to success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a student of the Honorable Minister Farrakhan, a tech entrepreneur, author, public speaker & content creator. I have built my platform sharing the teachings with people all over the world sharing my perspective on current events and self-improvement. As a business owner I have a consulting firm that coaches people on how to build their personal brands on social media & how to break into the tech industry. I learned about social media marketing & branding through the Digital Real Estate program by Brother Ben X & I was introduced to the tech world from a good brother named Cyrus Harbin. Once I learned the skills I just combined them into a business model. Through those services business owners learn how to grow online, build a platform & leverage that platform into other opportunities for business as well as breaking into tech creating a lucrative income that fund your entrepreneurial endeavors. I also have a podcast called the CampaignTv Show, a book I wrote called “The Enemy is the Inner Me 4 Ways to stop self destructive behavior” on my journey with self-improvement along with creating content & sharing them on my platforms to help educate & motivate my audience about ownership, business & self improvement.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Well my entrepreneurship journey started back in my hometown of Richmond, Va. I started a power washing company & a promotional company as well. My first podcast I started in Richmond as well. When we decided to relocate to Georgia I didn’t have a full plan about what I was going to do. We literally when on faith and said we will find jobs & work when we get there. So before I left Va I started my path into professional dog training & I had found a guy in Atlanta that was really good and owned a dog training business. So before I came to Atlanta I reached out to him and told him I would be moving there and did he need an apprentice or was he hiring etc. He told me to reach out to him when I got there and that’s what I did. But when I first moved to GA it wasn’t to Atlanta it was in middle GA in Bonaire. Close to Warner Robins & the air force base. What I didn’t realize was that was 1 hour and 45 mins from the dog training facility. Well shortly after moving to Bonaire my car was repossessed so I didn’t have a car but my uncle is on dialysis and was kind enough to let me use his car to get around until I was able to get another one. Everything I established in Richmond Va was over because I moved. No podcast, no promotion company no nothing so I had to completely start over. So because the dog training facility was so far I couldn’t go everyday so he said just come 3 days a week and I said cool. I would drive up there and I started as an unpaid apprentice for his company but he would pay me to do odd jobs around the house just to keep some money in my pocket and put gas in the car. So I would clean out the shed and assist with putting up fence post around the property and things like that and he would pay me for that. My wife had gotten a job and my children were in school and I didn’t want my uncle to have to get them off the bus so I would leave from Conyers and fly all the way back down to Bonaire to get them off the bus. I would leave at like 8am to get there by 9:45 and I would stay until 1pm so I could get back by 2:45pm to get my daughters off the bus! In the mean time I found a job close to where we lived at Kroger and worked overnight stock. I did this for about 5 months. I had to save money to get a car and get somewhere to live closer to where I was working but that 1 hour & 45 min drive was no joke! While I was living with my uncle that’s when I first started making content as well. I didn’t have any podcast equipment but I was using my phone to make videos. Well in December of 2017 I was able to secure a place in Atlanta to live. By then I also had gotten a car so I was making my way and we moved into our house in January of 2018. Now I still didn’t have any equipment outside of my phone to make videos. No camera, no laptop to edit or anything. We had been living at my uncle house in one bedroom. He had more than one but my wife and daughters all wanted to stay in the same room so it was important that we move out. So in January we were in our new spot & now I was working full time as a dog trainer. Now I could start focusing on building the platform. I started to save money to get my equipment and I knew I couldn’t buy anything brand new so I had to look on Facebook marketplace to find a camera and a computer. Ultimately I was able to find some good deals and relaunched my podcast. With only a cpu and a camera, I still couldn’t afford a mic! Resilience is necessary if you want to make it in life because there is always a curveball being thrown your way but it’s about how you handle it and persevere that determines your success.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I always wanted to grow my social media platforms. I was looking into courses and things like that online but I didn’t pull the trigger on anything. And one day I’m on social media and I see Brother Ben X promoting a course teaching people how to grow online. When I saw that I said to myself “I know this brother & he’s in the Nation so he has good character. I also know he knows what he’s talking about because I’ve seen his platforms and they are huge. As soon as I can however I can I’m going to take his course.” And that’s what I did. I was one of his first students and I just literally followed everything he told us to do. That was back in 2018 & I’ve been a student and constantly learning new methods ever since. Social media is constantly changing so old strategies won’t work forever and you have to switch things up. Some advice I would give to people is make sure whatever space you are operating in bring value to it. What I mean is provide solutions, perspectives and/or results to a problem people are having. Teaching people or entertaining them is the fastest way to grow your platforms online. But you have to stay consistent with your content. In the beginning you will have to post 3-5 times a day just to stay in the algorithm and on people feed. Consistency is key
