We were lucky to catch up with Brooklyn Wiltscheck recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Brooklyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business

I graduated from cosmetology school in November of 2020. After graduation, I worked as a commission stylist for a few months before opening up my own salon suite in June of 2021. I had only been open for less than a year and was voted the best hair salon in Mankato! It’s crazy to me because I’m only one person, and I just have one set of clientele voting for me vs a much larger salon with lots of employees. It felt extremely amazing to be recognized this early on in my career! Another crazy thing that recently happened was getting contacted by an extremely well known international hair color brand! They’re flying me out to their headquarters in LA so I’m really excited for that experience!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I am 26 years old and have had a passion for hair all my life! In 2019, I finally found myself in a stable enough spot to follow my dreams of being a cosmetologist!

I would consider myself to have a really bold and creative personality, so I love to channel that energy into giving each client a unique color, tailored to their desire. I think that’s what sets me apart from others in this industry. I take that creativeness one step further and match their hair with a fun image that goes with the vibe! It’s gotten a ton of really great feedback!

I offer a small variety of services (haircuts, facial waxing, coloring) but you’ll really only see me showcase my colors. I love everything that I do, but painting hair is by far my favorite thing, so I share it with the world! I love making my clients feel like a walking piece of art! Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and confident. Getting to be a part of someone’s positive self esteem has been extremely rewarding.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

The biggest thing that attracts people to my page is the aesthetic! I’ve never seen anyone else’s Instagram look like mine so there’s an aspect of uniqueness to it! Consistency is key when putting together a social media presence. Whatever aesthetic you pick, just make sure you can stick with it. It’s a lot of work, but the payoff is awesome!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

Word of mouth has been the best thing in my opinion for generating new clients! Often times the clients that are in my chair were referred to me by someone who has already had a service done by me! If you keep your clients happy and give them a good experience, your books will always be full!
