We recently connected with Brooklyn Jourdan and have shared our conversation below.
Brooklyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media – Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. At the time when I was first trying to grow my business, I didn’t have the money to invest in social media management – there were other things I deemed more important as investments for my business with the funds I did have. I won’t lie, it can take a lot more time and mental exertion than you may think, but the payoff has shown. I started out by simply posting one image a day. As I got the hang of that, I started throwing in reels, tik toks, stories, and more. I can directly see the influence this has had on my business. Since starting the posting every day idea, I’ve had so many friends and family simply mention that it seems like my business is going well. My name got out there more, and there more I got clients from having my name out there, the more trustworthy my business became because I had word of mouth and reviews to share why people liked their experience when they hired me.

Brooklyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer that specializes in couples and wedding photography! However I also do senior portraits, maternity, family, and more. My love for photography started when I was in junior high – my family had a photographer we used every year to take out family photos. I remember one year she let me hold her camera and take a picture or two with it. I remember being so excited about it. After that, I started saving up babysitting money to buy myself a starter DSLR camera. My friends probably got sick of me wanting to take their pictures and setting up little photoshoots around the neighborhood with them. All through high school and college, photography continued to be a hobby and I learned what I liked and what I was good at. In 2020 I decided it was officially time to start a business. It was slow at first (partially thanks to everything going on in 2020) but there was a lot for me to learn about being a business owner. I’m still learning all the time but I love looking back and seeing all the progress I’ve made. I’ve found that I love capturing love stories and interacting with couples and getting to know them. My goal is to capture their unique relationship and catch genuine laughs, smiles, and kisses. My goal is to make my photoshoots feel more like a fun date instead of an awkward encounter you try to get through just so you can put new pictures on the wall.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me, I’ve noticed 2 things that have helped massively – the first being giving my clients a good experience. When I started focusing on giving my clients the best experience I could, I started getting a lot more word of mouth referrals. If you do something you love, you’re going to want to share it with your friends. I want my clients to love their experience working with me! The other thing I’ve noticed helped a lot was consistently posting on social media. It reminded people that I was in business and helped me show what I was up to – my most recent work, behind the scenes, any extra fun experiences I have, etc.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
By the end of our session, I usually end up feeling like we’ve become friends. Some of my clients I follow on social media from my business account and continue to interact with them. I also like to send little extras or gifts as a thank you to my wedding clients when I can!
