We recently connected with Brooklyn Anderson and have shared our conversation below.
Brooklyn, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
My mom started with just an idea of making hair bows and clips for fun, then later on started selling them because I used to get so many compliments off of them… if you look at my logo it’s a bow in there, so that’s how we came up with the logo because I started off selling hair bows.. My logo changed twice because we wanted to do something different and fun instead of just hair accessories, so we gradually moved onto purses and clothing and that’s why my business is called Brooklyn’s fun Accessories, we wanted to mix it up.. this all started at the age of 5 months and by the time I turned 1 in December of 2020 my mom made my business official by getting my LLC.. once I got my LLC mommy knew it was time to be more serious and create something that I can actually call my own… we came up with the idea of putting a saying on my purses.. after researching and going through legal options mommy decided to put on my purses “hey pretty girl” which is something she would call me everyday! And after a 1yr in a half of paperwork I officially became a trademark owner of my purse brand “hey pretty girl!” This year May 2023…. It was a long process! But we never gave up! So now I have something to call my own
Brooklyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brooklyn and my business is called Brooklyn’s Fun Accessories… Mom started my business at the age of 5 months and made it official for me at the age of 1 by getting me my LLC…. I’m 3 now and will be 4 in September… We started off doing hair Accessories and later on went into purses and clothing… I grasped more towards the purses, so mommy created my very own purse line called “hey pretty girl.” Because that’s what she called me everyday.. I became a trademark owner of my brand May 2023.. Me and mommy wanted to create a purse for young ladies to remind them how beautiful pretty and smart they are everytime they wore their bag… I also have a boys line called “hey handsome fella”.. we couldn’t forget about the young men and wanted to make them feel confident in their clothing when they wear them…. I’m so proud at how far we come… from being in the living room doing hair bows to now I have my own store which opened up in February 2023 in Livonia Mi to being in multiple fashions as a toddler designer showcasing my brand on the runway and becoming a trademark owner of my brand
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
To never expect support from everyone… Some of the closest people to you will never support you but that doesn’t mean give up… My mommy always taught me to do what I love and greatness will follow
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Running a business is not cheap.. between getting inventory, building a website, getting your LLC, getting marketing materials and so much more, you have to figure out what works for you and your budget. My mommy funded my business out her own pocket with her Job pay checks… My mom is still funding everything out of pocket on her own
But mommy always said it will pay off in the end.. if you’re serious about your brand never stop, never give up… the more your pour into yourself, the ending results will be priceless and worth it!
