We recently connected with Brooke Young and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I had been thinking about starting my business for a couple of years before I actually put my plan into action. I built my following on social media around my workouts and sharing my personal journey with health, wellness, nutrition, etc. I had people reaching out to me every day asking me for advice and information. I had finally found something after about 7 years of working out that worked for me. The method and process that I was using for my workouts was providing amazing results, so I wanted to share that with other people who maybe felt stuck or lost when it came to their health. I am not a medical professional so I had some reservations about sharing this information, but I let go of those negative perceptions and went for it.
I knew that sharing this information and giving people a plan was something that was going to be worthwhile because of how many people were asking me for information or leaving positive comments on my content. I felt like this would work because of the proof that I show in my reels, videos, stories, and in my everyday life when talking to people about the process that I’ve gone through.
I do feel like my business and the products that I’m selling are solving a problem and that they are unique compared to others in the market. There are thousands of workout plans available on the internet but mine are different. They give the customer so much information, guidance, and support. There are modifications, video tutorials, and tips that you can’t find anywhere else. My approach is unique because it is comprehensive and it gives customers a full plan of what to do for weeks/months/years, instead of just a quick fix that they won’t actually use.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a mid-30s, toddler mom, wife of a football coach, and lover of all things health & wellness. I have been working out for 10+ years in various ways, primarily doing strength training workouts. I have gone through many phases and stages of my experience and a little over three years ago, I found a process that actually worked for me. As a former collegiate athlete, I did not have a healthy relationship with training or fueling my body. I resented working out and eating for fuel but when I finished playing volleyball, I realized that something had to change in order to be my healthiest self. I had been thinking about the idea to create workout plans and programs for other people for months and finally put it into action this Summer. My workout plans launched in August 2024 and I’ve received so much great feedback about the plans that are available. I got into this industry purely from experience. My formal education is in Sport Administration, primarily at the collegiate level, but I have been passionate about fitness and exercise science for the past few years.
I provide four different workout plans that are applicable to anyone who wants to train in a way that will allow them to see results. My plans are easy to use, comprehensive, and include so much information to set up the customer for success. Here is what’s included in the plans –
9-page PDF that includes –
Information & background about me
Detailed expectations of the program
Helpful tips for efficient & effective workouts (explanation of sets x reps, tracking your weights, definition of supersetting, details about the split)
Commonly used abbreviations you’ll see throughout the plan
Gym tips & etiquette to help make it a not-so0-scary place
A link to your editable Google sheet which is the most important thing in the plan – you need a Google account which most of us have, and download the Google Sheets App on your phone so you can track your workouts while you move through them.
BONUS: Nutrition guidance – a full grocery list including protein, fats, fruit, veggies, complex carbs, and more. // What I Eat in a Day – this is an example! Everyone is different. OR Recovery & injury prevention tips
WITHIN THE PLANS: 6 day splits – this is in the PDF but if you can’t get to all 6 days, that is OKAY. Space to weigh in and enter warm up information. Exercises are listed on the left – links to video of each exercise. Sets & reps are listed next to exercise – then there is a blank cell for you to enter the weight that YOU are actually using.
Each plan is different – Gym Phase 1 – full-body, getting used to movements // Gym Phase 2 – muscle-group focused // Home Phase 1 – muscle-group/body weight focused // Home Phase 2 – HIIT circuits
So you can see that there is so much included in these workout plans. It’s not just a recommendation, but these can give people knowledge and experience to take their training to the next level. I’m so proud of the work that it took to put these together, all by myself. I didn’t use an agency or someone to help me with my website. I figured it out as I went. I created these plans to help people. I want people to see how the process can and should look, and give people tools to make the process smooth.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started building my presence on social media in March 2021. Three years ago today (10/10/21) I hit 4,000 followers on Instagram. Today I have over 25K followers and an engaged community that loves my content. I have worked with many brands and products that I love and I share authentic content that my community trusts. If I had to give one piece of advice, as cliché as it sounds, it’s to just start. I took products that I already loved and used consistently and started putting together content as if I were already an “influencer.”
Post consistently. Be authentic. Add value. Talk about your own experiences because there is going to be someone out there that will relate to you. Your own experience and life is unique and is a beautiful story. What you do on a daily basis can be valuable to someone else out there. Why not share it? I love sharing varying aspects of my life from family to workouts to products to food to restaurants that I love. The influencer or content creator space is not over-crowded, although it may feel like it sometimes. There is space for everyone. Just have fun doing it! Try not to worry too much about likes, views, interactions – just post what you love and have fun doing it, or it’ll become a chore. Just start somewhere & be consistent – that’s probably the biggest piece of advice I could share.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My most trusted strategy for growing my clientele or following is to be authentic. I share products that I actually love and use. If I share something that doesn’t align with my audience, they notice. I want my followers to trust me and my recommendations. I also want to make it known that I truly care about helping people. I didn’t create my workout plans and build my business with the intention to “get rich” – I want to help people realize their goals and reach their dreams. I want people to live healthier and be more confident in their bodies, which is evident in the information that customers receive when they purchase a workout plan.
I am transparent, open, and honest when it comes to the information that I share. That allows my clients or customers to believe in the content that I am sharing and trust me when it comes to my recommendations. I also communicate regularly with my customers and subscribers in the form of blogs, email outreach, and replying to DMs/website inquiries. Having constant open communication and giving my customers access to additional information if needed has also given my clientele more peace of mind when it comes to my products.
