We were lucky to catch up with Brooke Warden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name Pink Cactus was inspired by a rare type of prickly pear cactus plant named the Santa Rita Prickly Pear. It is known for its pink to purplish color. They are rare and at the time of opening my restaurant the city was anemic for Mexican food and specifically interior Mexican cuisine. Pink Cactus is inspired by the region of Oaxaca; the birthplace to Mexican cuisine.
I spent time finding these plants to plant in front of the restaurant to be a visual motif of how I saw my concept and still see it today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I opened Pink Cactus with the goal to bring a hip, fun and casual Oaxacan style restaurant to Charleston’s blossoming food scene. I developed a deep passion for Oaxacan ingredients and cooking techniques during a series of trips there where I discovered a completely different expression of Mexican cuisine than I knew before previously- one that Charleston was missing.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I don’t have to do much on social media because customers share so many videos online when they dine because they love the pink cactus margarita and enjoy taking pictures on the patio with the cactus themselves. This makes my social media job so much easier.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Hire good people that are dependable and passionate. The rest with fall into place if you start by hiring correctly.
