We were lucky to catch up with Brooke Walsh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I remember having a fascination with photo albums as a little girl—I would spend hours looking through photographs and the memories that they depict. Starting my photography business, I made it my mission to capture timeless moments that have real emotion tied to them. Photographs are forever—they’re more than just social media posts, they last a lifetime and show off our milestones as people. I also love to work with other women-owned businesses, it’s important to me to highlight them and the amazing work that they do.
Brooke, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After I graduated college, I had a gap year where I tried to think about my direction in life—as a stress relief, I would take photos with my phone and edit them . During the pandemic, I started taking photos with my camera and knew that I wanted to pursue it as a career. I didn’t know exactly to start—I would post landscape photos on Instagram, hoping that something would come out of it. One day, someone reached out to me and told me about the Boxed Party (now Eventful by Alexa) who would go on to become my very first professional client. She took a chance on me, which introduced me to the world of photography and marked the beginning of my business.
I began with capturing event decor and eventually branched out into portrait sessions, branding shoots, and engagement photos. Above all, I’m most proud of my love for what I do—through the years, I’ve struggled with anxiety and have been able to use my creativity as a source of inspiration and confidence. I try to tell a story with my photos that’s engaging for both my clients and for their friends, family, and followers.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to work with such a wide variety of people and businesses is very satisfying, along with repeat clients whose stories I watch grow and develop over time. Also, being able to express my creativity in slightly different of a way for each and every client I meet makes photography something that never gets old.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of new clients is word of mouth—recommendations from existing clients lead to new relationships and new opportunities with people and businesses!
