Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brooke Shepherd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brooke, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a client that you appreciate them?
Most of my business comes from referrals from my previous clients. My clients are my heart, they are why I am in this business. I love doing pop-bys, they allow for me to connect w/ my clients and put a smile on their face(s). I make sure everyone in their house feels touched by something during the year. Many times I just take stuff for the kids. Then other times I take stuff just for the adults. If I see on social media they got a new pet, I send them something from Amazon. Baby, something from Amazon sent in the mail. I try to stay up with their social media so I know what is going on and what their needs are, I want to be the person they can come to for anything.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started off in this business as an admin and soon realized I wanted to become a real estate agent. I had 4 kids at home and we were trying to find a way to bring in extra income, while still being a full-time mom. My goal was to never miss sporting events, field trips, school events, etc. This career allowed me to do that. Out of the 15 years of sports, my kids played in total, I only missed 5 games, so thankful for that!
My clients are the reason I continue to be in this business. They refer people to me, they are my best hype person and they are truly there for me. Even after the transaction is over, I still want to help them out. If they need a contractor, I want to help them find one. If they need clothes for a child they are fostering, I want to make sure they get the clothes they need to help that child out. My relationship with my clients doesn’t end the day they close on the home. It is a lifelong commitment.
My goal is to always do the right thing, even if no one is watching. For me, I have to go to bed at night knowing that my clients were satisfied with the work I did. That they felt I always had their best interest at heart. I never want my clients to feel like they were just another paycheck to me.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me, the most effective way of growing my clientele is continuing to keep in touch w/ my past clients. Even though people see the term Love Languages as a personal relationship thing. I see it is how I connect w/ my clients on the business side of things. My love language is giving gifts and communication. I love doing pop-byes and leaving my previous clients a little something to know I am thinking of them. This is to include their children, they get stuff a few times a year too. Those personal touches mean a lot to my clients. So I continue to build on that. Or if they have a baby or are just getting out of the hospital I will try to send them pizza for dinner or something like that. I love taking care of my clients, past and present!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Great question! My hope is that I am known for going the extra mile for my clients and my peers. I am essentially my client’s advocate and have to fight for them and make sure everything is done with integrity and honesty. I think that my peers know that I am not going to hide anything. I am not going to lie about anything. I know my contracts. I tend to think outside the box when we hit some bumps in the road. I feel my people know that the #1 goal is to get our clients to the closing table, they can’t count on me to do everything possible to get us there. I also love to participate in fundraisers and help other women in real estate be successful.
