We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brooke Ray. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brooke below.
Alright, Brooke thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea of Locust Lane came through my own struggles decorating my home. We had recently done a major renovation on a historic home in downtown Huntsville, AL . I was on the hunt for a hand knotted rug for my dining room. I realized a handcrafted rug was a big investment, so I didn’t want to make a mistake. Trying to navigate the actual colors of all the rugs I was finding was near impossible. It was then and there, I decided to solve my own problem and founded Locust Lane.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Brooke Ray, the founder of Locust Lane. Our sole focus is handcrafted rugs. We believe everyone should love where they live. Home has never been more important after the learning lessons Covid provided. Locust Lane is proud to have pioneered our True to Hue program, this is where we match the wools used to design our rugs to Benjamin Moore paint colors. Taking the mystery out of rug shopping.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Well i started off as an educator. After i had my children I was a stay at home mom for many years before the seed of an idea of Locust Lane. There have been many pivots and learning lessons along the way.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Honestly, word of mouth. It has been a pretty organic growth process for us. Social media has been our main source for growing brand recognition. I am always amazed when a client calls or emails and said a friend referred us or they love a rug of ours they saw somewhere. It makes my heart so happy!
