We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brooke Perez-gamboa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke , thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
The first time I realized I wanted to become a content creator was actually when I was on maternity leave with my second son. I realized how much time I spent working at the hospital, 5 days a week – 8 hour shifts + being on call, I missed so much of my first sons life. I saw how so many mom creators were able to spend more time with their families by making content online. I definitely wish I started content creation sooner, that being said in the past I was very hesitate because I was afraid of what people may think. Having my kids really motivated me and made me realize it didn’t really matter what others thought, the only thing that did was that I had more time with my family and I was still doing what I loved.

Brooke , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a healthcare worker at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. I currently work for the cardiology department & department of nursing. Prior I was at Wolfson’s Children Hospital in the anesthesia department. I also do online content creation, mostly on the platform Instagram. I create content regarding everything between motherhood/lifestyle to traveling to ugc collaborations. As for what I think sets me apart from others is the fact I make a wide variety of content. Many social media creators try to center their content around one specific niche. Unlike them, I have a hard time just picking one niche. When you go to my profile and scroll through my page you will see a variety of videos like I said before anything from motherhood/lifestyle to traveling to ugc collabs and now I’ve been loving making seasonal content. This can also tie into something I am so proud about. Social media can be hard, it takes time, effort, and a lot of consistency. For that while juggling all that I do at home and at work I am very proud.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Something I feel that society could do to best support us is share, share, share. If you like our content share it with someone you also think would enjoy our content. This helps our account reach more accounts helping our engagement. By sharing our content, we grow bigger, reach more people and this allows us to continue creating content and doing what we love to do.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of creating content is honestly hard to say. There are so many amazing things that comes out of content creation. I love being able to spend more time with my family & doing fun things with them. I love talking with my followers and building a bond with them. Being able to connect with brands and companies is something I am so grateful for. Instagram has opened so many doors for me and for that I have to say is the most rewarding part.
