We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brooke Nipp a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
Well, this is my first position in my field. I started my career in the hospital in emergency nursing for 6 years. The high stress environment took a toll on me physically and mentally. I felt like I needed a change and decided to pursue an advanced practice degree in hopes of finding something less stressful. I had always been drawn to aesthetic nursing, but was unsure that I would be able to find a position. Upon graduating with my nurse practitioner degree, I interviewed for a couple positions that quite frankly sounded more stressful than emergency room nursing. I briefly interviewed with Kris, but she initially picked someone who had experience injecting. Upon hearing I wasn’t chosen for the position I asked Kris how I could make myself more marketable to potential employers, and she recommended I take a beginner’s injecting course at a local injector academy. The training was quite the investment for me and my family, but I was hopeful that it would help me get started in this industry. The training I received at Method Aesthetic Academy was wonderful and confirmed my passion for aesthetics. A few months after I completed the course, Kris reached back out to see if I was interested in injecting for her a couple days a week. I was thrilled for the opportunity. My advice to anyone looking to get into the aesthetics industry would be to invest in quality, hands on trainings and never stop developing your skills. Aesthetics is an industry that is unique in healthcare because it is elective medical procedures. Injecting requires a passion for artistry, ethics, and anatomy. I love bringing all this together to assess a patient and recommend treatments that will help improve their concerns.
I am happy that this is my first experience in aesthetics. We have a small practice, which has its challenges, but I love my coworkers and patients. I am so thankful to Kris Pritchard, the Nurse Practitioner and owner of our practice for her mentorship as I enter this field. Kris is passionate about her business and ensuring her patients get the best results. She takes a comprehensive approach to address all the aspects of the aging process. I have continued my aesthetic training under Kris and hope to attend more advanced courses in the next year to better serve my patients and their aesthetic goals.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Brooke Nipp. I am a nurse practitioner in the aesthetic industry. In this field of medicine, we are focused on improving how patients look on the outside which ultimately impacts how they feel on the inside. I like to really listening to my patients to determine what their goals are and what I solutions we can offer them. I have found that the aging process causes a real disconnect with how you look on the outside not matching how you feel on the inside. I think what sets our practice apart is that we take a comprehensive approach to the aging process to help our patients get the best result. We work hard at developing relationships with clients and love seeing the transformations that be achieved when a patient really trusts our recommendations.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being artistic and developing an eye for seeing what part of the aging process is contributing to the patient’s concern is a key part of succeeding in aesthetics. This is something that is inherent, but can also be honed with experience.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely. Occasionally, I will get asked if I miss working as a nurse practitioner. While I understand this question is more about patient care, I truly believe medical providers make a huge difference even in the field of aesthetics. I love using my nurse practitioner degree and the knowledge of disease process, assessment, and anatomy to provide a treatment plan that will help my patient look and feel better. I cherish the relationships I have made with patients and being a part of them feeling more confident and refreshed.
