Finding partners in a small community like the Outer Banks really comes down to building meaningful and real relationships. We started by getting to know the businesses and offering the best photography services we could. As we worked with people, they liked and trusted us more and began referring our business to others. Over time, some of those folks moved on to bigger companies and helped connect us to new opportunities.

We’ve learned the importance of staying in touch, because you never know when those connections might come back around.

People choose to work with us because we care about their needs and are focused on contributing to the community. The biggest lesson we’ve learned is this: make friends, keep them, and always do the right thing, even when it’s difficult. That’s what helps build strong, lasting partnerships.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

Candace Owens, our associate photographer at Brooke Mayo Photography, is an incredibly talented artist and painter. From her food to her home decor and paintings, everything she creates is beautiful. I met Candace when my daughter was a couple of months old, and after seeing her creativity, I asked if she’d like to learn photography. Since then, she’s attended workshops and classes, continually honing her craft while capturing weddings and portraits.

For 14 years, Candace has been a vital part of Brooke Mayo Photography, capturing the love and joy of weddings and families both locally and around the world. She has a true passion for destination weddings, whether it’s on a sun-kissed beach or in a romantic vineyard. Her excitement and dedication to photography ensure your special day is documented beautifully.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
