We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brooke Kayla . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brooke below.
Brooke , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
When I was in the process of thinking of creating a podcast especially at a young age (15). I knew doing a podcast at the age, was going to be a risk between the success and the reaction from the audience but its better to say at least you tried it rather than not trying at all! So, I took the risk of starting my own podcast My World With Stories at the age of fifteen years old and it has been a game changer! Having so many people from the Broadway, film, and music world to name a few is an experience of a lifetime and will be forever grateful. I’ve learned so many stories in the business that I will take with me if I professionally go into that path one day since I’m aspiring performer! Taking a risk is important and it’s something that you will face in any field or in life. And you never know the outcome it may bring good or bad. And if it doesn’t work out, try again and move on! Always look on the positive side!
Brooke , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brooke Kayla and i’m a performer and podcaster! I started singing at the age of two years old and have been with ever since now at the age of seventeen years old. I have/continue to perform in numerous productions at my local high school which I absolutely love! Some of my favorites include: Beauty and The Beast Jr, The Spongebob Musical, The Wizard of Oz, and some Dinner Theater productions as well! My favorite thing about performing is being up on a stage doing what I love which is to sing, act and dance. Along, the response from the audience and how thoughtful they all are towards the hard work you put in day in and day out.
In 2021, the pandemic was still going and it was also when I started high school which ended up being online due to lockdown. I always loved listening to podcasts even before the pandemic and always thought it would be cool to start my own but how would that work? It started with me reaching out to about 5 Broadway actors/actresses telling them about my podcast in the works and if they would like to be a guests. And they all said yes and the rest is history of starting my very own podcast My World With Stories (Available on Youtube and Spotify) ! I’m most proud of reaching out of my comfort zone and talking to these amazing people that i’ve had the honor of talking to such as Kate Marielly (Broadways The Prom and Beetlejuice), Beth Leavel (Tony Award Winner), Phillip White (Songwriter of the theme song “I’m a Survivor” of Reba Mcentire’s self titled show), Michelle Brooks – Thompson (The Voice finalist), Natalie Gallo (Broadway’s Mamma Mia and Jersey Boys) , Lisa Stokke (Original Sophie in Mamma Mia) to name a few! And the editing/production/marketing process which is all done by me! It’s a beautiful platform that I love doing and something I will always cherish!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the response from the audience. The audience has a huge impact of the success of both my performing and podcast. They tell me stories, suggestions, and complements that only makes me better in both. I take that with me for every performance and podcast. And with that, that is the most rewarding aspect for me!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, most definitely! My goal would be to hopefully purse communications and musical theater in college next year and to hopefully after having a career in both! Digital video editing professionally and Broadway would be a huge dream!
