Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brooke Hart. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brooke, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
The title “personal stylist” is pretty straight forward, you dress up your clients based on their personal taste, body, vision and more! It is a transformative experience because you get to see yourself being represented while feeling seen.
As I was working with clients for about a year after I started my business, I noticed how even though I enjoyed what I did, it felt like something was missing. And what was missing was my values in my business.
I honored some of my values such as authenticity, beauty, and self-expression through the services I’ve offered before but ignored my other values such as self-acceptance, self-discovery, mindset, spirituality and more.
When I discovered this, I worked for 6 months to have my offers align with my values.
So when working with me, you won’t get a “Done for You” service. I take my clients through the self-acceptance & self-discovery journey along the way.
I co-create the results with my clients while giving them perspective on their body and style from both on an energetic and physical level. I make sure to provide them clarity as to why they are drawn to certain clothing pieces and how they can honor and mirror who they are into their style.
Now I know it may not sound like your typical “innovative” idea, but I am very proud to offer not what a stylist “should” offer, but what I want to offer in order to deliver the best transformation for my clients. What is best for me is best for all, I believe in this truly. Now with 100% certainty, I can say I am proud and love what I offer as a stylist.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Brooke and my business offers personal styling that takes a spiritual, holistic and energetic approach.
It all started back when I was a Japanese and Black girl growing up in Japan. I was always in the center of attention because of my appearance. Or at least that’s how it felt. I have darker skin than my friends and family with different features and that made me want to “fit in” from a young age. I will try everything and anything to blend in with the people around me. This feeling was very isolating and I never want anyone to feel like they aren’t enough for who they are.
At the same time, I always loved fashion. Get me some clothes and I was a happy girl. I will dream of a walk-in closet from a young age. During my time in college, which is when I moved to the U.S, I discovered the title personal stylist for the first time and felt called to become one. I loved how I get to style people who aren’t on TV or magazine but have problems I can relate and solve for. I took multiple training, courses and certificates to gain the tools and the skillset. In 2021, I officially launched my own business called Enchant Style.
My vision for you is to reflect your inner light, what makes you YOU, to your outer light by honoring your being and energy. I co-create your “Magnetic Style” with my clients. A style that makes you feel and become magnetic by honoring your magic. Going back to my upbringing, it is so common for people, especially women, to feel like they need to change something about themselves in order to be accepted. When the only person who needs to accept you is yourself. And this is what I want my clients to experience. Self-acceptance through self-discovery.
I want you to have your wardrobe feel like your morning cup of coffee where it energizes you from within. Where you get to create more opportunities for you to go to events, meet up with friends/family and do things you were putting off doing because you had “nothing to wear”. Style isn’t always about being glam, but it’s also about honoring your body, mind and soul. How do you want to feel today and how can you honor that in your style? What does your body need today and how can your clothes support that?
Your clothes can shift your mood, productivity, thoughts, and emotions so why not use it to your advantage? This is how we approach personal styling.
So if you want someone telling you what to wear and buy, I’m not your go-to girl. But if you want to co-create transformation from within and see that reflect outwards, I’m your girl!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I used to care about numbers. The number of likes, followers, engagement etc. And not to say those things can’t be used to see where you’re at in your business and what people appreciate, but I started to shift my focus on the impact I’m making.
My main purpose is to inspire. Spreading inspiration and having people shift their perspective and mind makes my heart warm.
In order for me to inspire others, I can’t do things that everyone else is doing. I need to use my own story, voice, values and perspectives in order to be authentic to inspire. “5 ways to wear a white top” is a fashion content I would have made before. Not to say I won’t ever but that’s not my main content anymore. Now the title of my content can say “Why I want you to have the audacity to want more in your life”. I’m using my own voice and perspective, not what a stylist “should” post and say.
So my advice is to ask yourself what you want to achieve by showing up on social media. Is it to get as much audience to watch your videos in order to sell your products? Then yes using a viral sound, a popular video around your niche can be your way. If it is to inspire people and to build a community, the quality of people matters more than quantity. Being able to have your content inspire 1 person rather than 1000 people scrolling through to me is valuable.
Getting clear on your intentions on social media than honoring that will be my biggest advice and also the lesson I continue to learn.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
One book that has helped me as an entrepreneur that is a creative, is called “Show your work” by Austin Kleon. There’s a lot of moments in my business where I need to create. From social media post, email newsletter, creating outfits, and more. This book allowed me to see the bigger picture in creation and also to be intentional with every content I produce.
Another book, and my favorite, is called “Outwitting the devil” by Napoleon Hill. Reading this book has allowed me to see that my success as an entrepreneur is inevitable. The book was originally written during the Great Depression in the 1930’s. It is so interesting to read this book now after the pandemic because there are lots of similarity from then to now. I will recommend this book to anyone, especially entrepreneurs, to understand how giving up is the only failure.
