We were lucky to catch up with Brooke Farr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents have always been my biggest supporters. They have always encouraged me to choose an occupation I would enjoy. Both introduced me to art in their own ways. With my dad’s background in carpentry, there was no shortage of weekend projects I could help out in. We made beds for the garden, touched up paint around the house, and attempted many “Do it Yourself” projects. My mother had a more traditional artistic influence. As a former art student, she was very knowledgeable about drawing, painting, and sculpting techniques. When I initially showed interest in pursuing photography, they were thrilled. They bought me my first camera, came to all of my art shows, and did everything they could to provide me with the best opportunities. I will always have gratitude for everything they have done for me. I am beyond excited to follow in my mother’s footsteps of studying art and grow as an artist with them by my side. In addition, I would like to thank my brother, Peter. I know he doesn’t fall under the ” parental” role, but my big brother has consistently been there for me and acted as my role model growing up. My family has been a key part of my growth as not only an artist but as an individual.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Thank you for stopping by this article! My name is Brooke Loren Farr and I have worked in freelance photography for close to four years. I have covered sporting events, dabbled with photojournalism, taken portraits, and captured various cityscapes. The main goal of my work is to tell a story. The ability to explore different cities, get a first-hand point of view, and connect with those around me is what I love about photography. These stories are why I chose this career. I have just begun pursuing my Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and I am excited to see what opportunities it brings.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
In my freshman year, I was provided many opportunities through my college. The most important was from my graphic design club. Through my program’s directors, Kelly and Nancy (big shout-out to them), I sat in on conferences, met many local employers, and perfected my resume. These resources provided me with a leg-up in my career. My mom always taught me that “No matter how skilled you are, you will never be seen without the right connections.”. So, if provided the opportunity, go to that conference, meet new people, and step outside of your comfort zone. You never know what these small actions can lead to in your career.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
A photograph is more than it seems. It gives me the opportunity to capture a moment in all of its integrity, to tell someone’s story. In both my professional and personal work, I have captured moments I will never forget. Whether it be the newlywed couple’s first Christmas together, a game-winning shot, or watching a family grow together through their yearly portraits, I am able to provide people with an everlasting memory of their happiest events. On the contrary, I have also seen people’s worst days. A dog’s last day, families saying goodbye for the final time, and the raw moments from my photojournalism work. Watching these moments, good or bad, is the most rewarding part of my job and will always be my biggest inspiration.
