We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brooke Chanel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke , thanks for joining us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
I pride myself in being an innovator! My latest accomplishment has been having my wig line being sold on DoorDash for delivery or pickup in Charlotte NC! My company is the only wig store on the DoorDash platform!
Brooke , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brooke Chanel and I began my career as a Chemist after college. I loved the field but it felt too much like “work”. I made a brave decision to start a hair company in 2012 because I have always loved the hair industry. I started off selling raw hair bundles, then added a wig line in 2016. I also began doing wig and weave installations. In 2019 I rebranded from “Chanel B. Hair Boutique” to “Wig Out Wigs”. I have been able to network and make many important connections that have granted me awesome opportunities. I now style celebrities also. In 2020 I used my Chemistry background to create my own hair growth oil that is now sold on my website and my DoorDash store as well. I pride my company on having the best quality wigs and products for the best affordable price. I believe everyone should have access to my one if a kind quality products. Lastly I am very blessed to be able to give to the community. Every Christmas we gift wigs to the Cancer Institute in my city. We believe that when you look good, you feel good! God is great!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Being strategic is the number one thing in my company. Being a consumer myself, I understand that buyers want the best product they can buy, at the most affordable price. I specifically have done research on other companies in my same category, and made sure my prices are the best as well as my products quality. I have sourced many overseas vendors, and have found the best of the best hair for my wigs and other hair products. I want to be able to provide my products to anyone who is looking for hair that lasts for a long time.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I have an ambassadorship program that allows anyone to join my company and make a profit just for referring others to purchase in my website. The ambassador doesn’t have to pay any money down or do any work and they receive their pay directly deposited into their account!
