We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brooke Capozzoli. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brooke below.
Brooke, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
When I first started out, I only had a little red point and shoot camera. I took it everywhere! When my sister and brother-in-law got engaged, they asked me to take a few engagement photos for them and I absolutely fell in love with photography! From there, I bought a real camera and I began photographing their friends and their friends families! Then, I remember when I was in college, I had a few classmates who needed some photos done and they trusted me with their memories and it all just snowballed from there! One day in class, one of my classmates came and told me that they referred me to another student (whom I had never met) to be their wedding photographer. I was so flattered that they thought my work was that good! I met with the bride-to-be for coffee in the student coffee shop and she loved my work, booked me on the spot, and they were my very first wedding! They were such a joy to work with and passed my name along to a few other students getting married too!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a wedding and portrait photographer serving the Southern California area! I love connecting with people where they’re at in life – from proposal to parenthood – your legacy deserves to be celebrated!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It is so rewarding for me to get to work alongside so many amazing couples and families and be there for them during all their biggest milestones! To witness two people come together in marriage, or to see those couples become first time parents and grow their families is so so special! Watching my client’s little ones grow up each year at their sessions is so amazing to witness, and I know that the images taken are treasured by them and their loved ones.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When I was first starting out, I didn’t know much of anything about the world of other photographer educators and Facebook photographer groups! There is so much help, support and community in those groups and it’s a great place to start with for advice, constructive criticism, and other resources!
