We were lucky to catch up with Brooke Bruce recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am happier as a business owner because being a business owner comes with a lot of independence and the ability to create my own schedule. There are days where my schedule goes according to plan but having the flexibility to pivot on days where that is needed either on the farm or with my son’s schedule is a huge business owner perk. I get the benefit of setting my own schedule and making decisions that align with our goals.
On the really hard days or seasons of owning a business, I have thought about getting back into the corporate world. During those moments it feels like that would be the “easier” or less stressful option but the reality is the corporate world has its pros and cons too. When we first started livestock farming, other/more seasoned farmers would tell us not all animals will make it and not to beat ourselves up about it. That is the hard truth about what we do. In those moments of losing an animal and my heart is broken I would love nothing more than having a regular 9-5 job that I could clock out and not stress about until the next day. The corporate world could provide stability and structure and maybe less stress, depending on the job. It ultimately comes down to what I want most and in this case independence and flexibility is what works best for me and my family.

Brooke, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brooke Bruce and my husband and I own and operate The Bruce Farm. The Bruce Farm specializes in breeding Goldendoodle puppies and raising high quality beef delivered locally to your door.
Goldendoodles: Our goal is to produce puppies that make wonderful companions, so we breed with a focus on health and temperament above all. We want all of our puppies to live long and happy lives with their forever families. Each puppy is greatly loved by us and we ensure they are socialized, healthy and prepare to excel in their forever homes. We raise puppies following the Puppy Culture Method and they get a head started on potty and crate training. We want them to be easily trainable and have a smooth transition to their new home. We are dedicated to always providing you with a positive experience, and are committed to responsible practices when it comes to breeding, training and rehoming our puppies. Our puppies are raised with love and we strive to help each one grown up with confidence so they are ready to leave with their new families. The are affectionate, intelligent, and cute as can be!
Quality Beef: We raise our grass fed, grass finished beef on our farms in Kingsville, Missouri and Chillhowee, Missouri (50 miles southeast of Kansas City). We are committed to regenerating the land, giving our animals the best life possible and sharing our high quality meats by conveniently deliever them to your door. When you order from The Bruce Farm, you get meat raised by us, on our farm. We take pride in operating our farm and business with our animals and our customers as our top priority.
We stay active on our IG and FB stories daily (@thebrucefarm) so potential customers can follow along and see how our animals are raised and cared for.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
In the beginning social media and growing our following was super important for gaining new customers. Now that we are several years in our new customers typically come from word of mouth and referrals.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m no social media expert but I think that when it comes to social media and growing an audience you need to be consistent, be YOURSELF, engage with your followers, post regularly and show up in your stories. I think being authentic really goes a long way. I have gained several customers who turned friends based on converstaions that bloosomed in my DMs from people watching my daily life through stories.
One of the things I hear most when it comes to feedback from customers is that my daily stories and getting to watch the puppies grow up or see all the animal personalities on the farm is a huge reason why they decide to become a customer of The Bruce Farm.
