SubscribeWe recently connected with Brooke Bollinger and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
My 40th surprise birthday party was an absolute highlight for me, showcasing the genuine bonds I’ve forged within my industry. By far the kindest thing that has ever happened. The coolest part, even my competitors joined in to celebrate! It was a beautiful testament to the impact I’ve had, as they compiled a book detailing 40 ways I’ve inspired them. As an Enneagram 7, people are at the core of my passion, and feeling so deeply loved and appreciated was truly overwhelming. It reinforced the profound connections I’ve made and the positive influence I strive to impart in everything I do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a passionate advocate for hospice care, I proudly embrace the title of “Hospice Evangelist,” spreading the message of this invaluable gift that many don’t realize they need until it becomes essential. In my current role as a Sales Coach, I have the privilege of training and mentoring other representatives to become experts in hospice care. I travel to various offices, serving as a dedicated resource to empower sales teams with knowledge and skills. My journey has been one of personal growth and self-belief. I always say, “If you don’t believe in Brooke Bollinger, who will??” Although public speaking wasn’t initially my forte, I challenged myself by committing to 15 presentations in a year to master this skill. Although, I still have a long ways to go, pushing myself outside my own comfort has created much growth. I thrive on building genuine relationships, connecting resources, and uncovering the inherent strengths within individuals. For me, there’s nothing more fulfilling than extracting the gold from people and fostering meaningful connections in the process.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey of resilience in the hospice industry began 15 years ago. Initially starting with a different company, my aunt and I shared a vision: to build a hospice centered on people, both the employees we hired and the individuals we served, rather than solely focusing on profit margins. Launching Serenity Care Hospice from scratch was a privilege. From crafting our brand identity to assembling our team, we built upon a legacy of compassionate care. Even today, people in the Kansas City area reminisce about the exceptional service we provided. Our emphasis on fostering a nurturing work environment attracted more interest from potential employees than we could handle. It was a testament to our culture; when people are eager to work with you, you know you’re on the right path. Our philosophy was simple: love your team, and they will extend that care to their patients. We prioritized overstaffing to ensure optimal patient care, even if the immediate return on investment wasn’t apparent. It was a significant investment, but one that paid off immensely in the long run. A decade later, we successfully sold Serenity Care Hospice for a substantial profit, marking it as a definitive success. Now, I’m dedicated to helping other hospices achieve their own versions of success, empowering them to make a lasting impact in their communities.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If given the chance to go back, I would undoubtedly choose the same path without hesitation. Despite initially dreaming of a career in film editing after earning my degree in Broadcasting, I found my true calling as a relationship builder in hospice care. My love for people and the profound impact I’ve been able to make during some of life’s most challenging moments have been nothing short of a blessing. Serving others, being a difference maker, and building legacies align perfectly with where I believe I’ve been “called”.
While my dreams may have once led me to envision the glitz and glamour of Hollywood’s red carpet, the version I walk in hospice care has proven to be infinitely more fulfilling.
Just as Jesus taught, serving others, loving them deeply, and sacrificing for those around you brings immeasurable meaning and purpose to life. It’s in these acts of selflessness and compassion that we truly find fulfillment and make a lasting impact on the world around us. Embracing these principles has undoubtedly shaped my journey and brought richness to every aspect of my life.
