We were lucky to catch up with Brooke Benlifer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents both had/have their own professions & businesses that gave them the freedom and creativity to work for themselves. When I chose to do the same & follow in their footsteps, I was excited to build a practice from the ground up because my love for what I do and the years of training gave me the skills to feel confident in my ability to help others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I studied Nutritional Sciences and graduated from Cornell University. I took every opportunity to work in clinical settings prior to opening my own practice. I interned in nine hospitals in the NY Metro area and saw a huge spectrum of scenarios/settings/situations that gave me hands on experience working with all types of patients. When I moved to San Diego, I worked in four Scripps hospitals, as well as at Rady Children’s Hospital in the Hematology/Oncology Integrative Medicine program. I love learning about people and their experiences and cultural differences that shape their lifestyle practices and eating habits. Food can be medicine, and it is also a huge part of celebrations and influences mood, digestion, sleep, energy level, and more. Food is information for our bodies and what we feed it and how & when we feed it has such a profound impact. I provide one on one coaching and nutrition and lifestyle counseling, as well as personal training. I specialize in Youth Fitness, Behavior Change & Weight Management. I meet clients where they are at and truly listen to each person. I listen to why they are seeking help, and then we collaboratively come up with a step by step plan to help the person achieve his/her goals. I give people lots of time and attention, and we work closely to make sure that they feel confident and supported throughout the process. I also provide clients with the tools to be able to trust themselves to make nourishing choices that support their long term well being, vs just a short term fix.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Since the beginning of the pandemic, my business went 100% virtual (phone/FaceTime/text). It ended up working out beautifully, and gave me the opportunity to work with more long distance clients!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
