We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brook Choulet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brook, thanks for joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
When I was completing my general psychiatry residency at the University of Arizona Phoenix College of Medicine, I knew I wanted to create my own concierge practice where I could provide patients with unhurried visits, contact between sessions as needed, and exceptional mental health care. I founded Choulet Wellness: Scottsdale Concierge Psychiatry & Therapy in 2020 and Beverly Hills Concierge Psychiatry in 2021. As of August 2024, Choulet Wellness and Beverly Hills Concierge Psychiatry are rebranding to Choulet Performance Psychiatry™. Throughout this process of building businesses, I have learned a lot on the way and still have more to learn. I would encourage any young professional to strive to be resilient and adaptable. Owning and running a business does not always go according to plan, so it’s essential to keep a future-oriented, growth mindset.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am thrilled to announce the rebranding of our clinics, as of August 2024, into the same brand name: Choulet Performance Psychiatry™, the premier destination for mental excellence. In today’s demanding professional landscape, mental clarity and resilience are essential. At Choulet Performance Psychiatry™, we provide the tools needed to support our patients to maintain their edge and achieve sustainable success.
At Choulet Performance Psychiatry™, we are revolutionizing mental health care for today’s professionals, and their families, through a deep understanding that achieving mental excellence is key. Choulet Performance Psychiatry™ has locations in Scottsdale, Arizona as well as Beverly Hills and San Diego, California.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
This current stage of our business is a perfect example! While we grew our reputation under the name Choulet Wellness, it has become clear that we’re well-known in the niche of sports and performance psychiatry and therapy. To clarify, we do not only see athletes, but rather all high-performers and people who are seeking to elevate their performance in all facets of life. Over the past few years, I saw a trend in what we do and who we help: we guide our patients to optimize performance in all areas of life, enhancing overall life satisfaction. By offering a concierge model without recurring fees, we empower individuals to achieve their full potential in both their personal and professional life. I saw it fitting to rebrand our clinic with a clear name and message to showcase what we do and what our patients can expect.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being authentic! To me, authenticity is key. My genuine commitment to my patients’ well-being and my passion for their success have always been at the forefront of my practice. Both in my practice and outside of the office, I stay transparent and build authentic relationships with those around me.
In addition, I am an active writer for Forbes and Psychology Today, which helped me share my insights and expertise. This has allowed me to expand my reach as a leader in the field of Sports & Performance Psychiatry.
