We recently connected with Brook Choulet and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brook, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
I started putting the pieces of my business together a few years before opening my doors. It took several months to come up with a business name, logo, and website that I was proud to present to the local community. I had to get in a different mindset, as business ownership is extremely different from what we’re taught as physicians in medical school. Some key challenges I encountered along the way were struggling to find the perfect office space in an optimal location. Also scaling and marketing my business initially was quite time-intensive. I am so proud of what Choulet Wellness is today, as we truly provide a high level of mental health care to the local community in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Arcadia. My biggest piece of advice for young professionals is to not fear the unknown; it is always scary building a new business, especially something that no one else has done before. If you persevere through the challenges, you will succeed.
Brook, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brook Choulet, M.D. and I am a board-certified concierge psychiatrist. I specialize in promoting mental health and wellness in high-achievers, professionals, and athletes. In addition, I assist healthy and high-functioning individuals in optimizing their mental health, in order to enhance their work and personal performance. At Choulet Wellness, my mission is to provide a high level of individualized mental health care to the community by spending additional time with clients and really getting a great understanding of who they are as a person. I truly enjoy the work that I do and am passionate about providing en elevated mental health care experience.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
No doubt – I would choose psychiatry again!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When I first started Choulet Wellness, I was out in the community meeting other physicians and therapists to tell them about the. new service I was starting in town. I think those face-to-face interactions allowed people to see how much I exuded passion and genuine care for what I do. The best kinds of reputations are built organically, and I think it takes time for that organic, positive reputation to develop.
