Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bronwyn Swartz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bronwyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
I have one very loyal customer who is always showing off the jewelry pieces she has bought from me. She is constantly tagging me in her posts, telling her friends to buy from me and has requested several custom pairs. I am her go to when she needs a gift for one of her girlfriends. I just love that she thinks of me and is so generous with her compliments and spreading her love for my jewelry pieces. You cannot buy that kind of advertisement.
Her enthusiasm is infectious so every so often when she places an order I add 1 or 2 extra pieces, at no cost to her, to her package before shipping. It is always a surprise to her and I get the best messages from her on delivery day. She is always doing for others and I know it has meant so much to her to receive those little surprises and to know someone is thinking of her. It is so heart warming to know you have made someone else’s day.
Bronwyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being creative has always been a part of my life. As a child I learned to cross stitch, sew, and to cook & bake from scratch. As I got older it just became my normal to make what I wanted. Even now if I see something in a store or online I am more likely to see if I can make it myself before buying it. I have always loved jewelry and accessories. In high school I made almost all of my own jewelry. Everything from making my own paper beads to charm bracelets, beaded jewelry, wire art jewelry and using shells and fossils to create statement necklaces.
About 5 years ago I got together with some girlfriends one night and we made leather earrings. That is where it took off for me. I found leather to be so easy to use and the material provided many options to how you cut it, folded it to create the shape you wanted. I went home from that evening and continued to make more. Eventually people asked if I would make them some, if they could purchase from me and before I knew it the hair salon I go to wanted to display and sell my jewelry.
This last year I have added resin jewelry to what I offer as well. That has been a fun discipline to learn and again the options seem endless to what you can create with resin as well. So many ways to add color and texture to create a one of a kind piece.
I love to create custom pieces for my clients. I have never been a fan of wearing and doing what everyone else is and I love a challenge. So when a client sends a picture or description of what they are looking for that gets me excited. Some have sent in hand drawings, or school logos they wanted to see turned into earrings. It is such a great feeling to turn their thought into a reality and then to see their ecstatic pictures and read their note of thanks and praise when they get their custom pieces and love them.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth has been the best source. Whether that is in the traditional sense of just talking with others or sharing their pictures wearing my jewelry on social media, sharing my posts to their pages and stories. However, participating in local makers/craft markets is a close second. Getting to meet clients and potential clients has brought in a lot of new clients for me. I believe when you can meet the maker or artist of a product or service that makes it personal and more meaningful purchase.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Social media makes this easy. Since many clients request customs orders we chat quite a bit during the process via text or DM. So it becomes quite easy to keep them updated on sales, promos or events I will be at and when I have new pieces coming out. I feel the conversations that happen during the creation of custom pieces takes the relationship from feeling more like a friendship and not just a transactional client relationship.
