We recently connected with Brody (Brodeezy) Flanagin and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brody (Brodeezy) thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first time I ever performed live on a stage, I won 1st place and $100 for winning best performance of the night. That was a huge confidence builder, it gave me the courage to perform on any stage no matter how many people are in the crowd, and made me realize that I could turn this dream into reality. That night also opened a lot of doors for me as I have been booked at over 15 different venues in the Tampa area since then.
Brody (Brodeezy), before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brodeezy and I was born and raised in Tampa FL. I was a top linebacker prospect in Florida before tearing my ACL in high school which led to the end of any dreams playing in the NFL and multiple surgeries to this day. I started focusing on making music while trying to figure out a new route in life. During this time, I was lost and disoriented. I began to translate my passion for football into music, and express the things I have been through in my songs. It wasn’t until 2020 that I gained the courage to release music on all platforms and start really pushing my music. Since then I have dropped over 20 songs, 8 music videos, and performed all around the city.
I make music to express myself, tell my story, and remind others that no dream is too big. I’m somewhat of a quiet person, but I am loud on stage. I tend to have an aggressive flow, punchy bars, and passionate lyrics in my songs. I’ve won multiple songwriting contests, and headlined my first show in 2021 “The Brodeezy Show” which had an excellent turnout. I’ve dropped a lot of singles but have also collaborated with multiple different artists including Bruce Wayne, Prophit, Don Drago, Charlene Joan, and more. I focus on coming from my own point of view and keeping it real in my lyrics, as I’ve always been more inspired by an artist willing to be vulnerable and tell their own story, rather than the ones that just follow trends.
When it comes to recording music and and editing videos/photos, I take that into my own hands as well as I am my own Audio Engineer/Video Editor. I am always open to work with others to create the best content I can, but as a perfectionist I love to create my own vision and sound into my work. So in the past years, I have took the time to learn those skills as well to further myself in this industry.
In 2022, I launched my brand “43” by Brodeezy (Brodeezy.com) and started selling Merchandise and Apparel. I am also working on my debut album “BRODEEZY” dropping in 2023. I have a lot planned and a lot to work on. I appreciate the support I’ve gotten so far more than anything, and I’m confident that if I stick to the plan, and stay true, I will continue to have success as an independent artist.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Since I was a Youngin, I’ve had a lot of people tell me my dreams are too big. Whether that was playing in the NFL, or becoming a worldwide artist. Small minds don’t understand big dreams. That opinion has only motivated me more. I became what no one thought I would be on the field, and I’ve became what no one thought I would be on the Microphone. Through all the injuries, negativity and troubles, I never let an opinion shape my future, only fuel it. I struggled in school, I’ve grew up with ADHD, and I went through a point of depression caused by multiple surgeries and having to end my athletic career earlier than expected. I have always kept my head high and believed I have the strength to do anything I put my mind and heart in to.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In today’s society a lot of people don’t know how to have an opinion of their own, and are too use to only liking what’s “cool” or popular. I’d like for people to remember that any artist or creative that is already famous once started as a nobody. So never doubt someone just because they don’t have a ton of followers. Most of them are fake anyways. Find those hidden gems and show your friends, people are tired of hearing the same stuff all the time. All it takes is for one person to share that artist and it could start a ripple effect and help them gain more fans and recognition. If you like a song or an artist, share and support them. It means a lot to the artist and shows that you have an opinion of your own.
