Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brock Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brock, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I wanted to become a stylist because I love fashion and I love to create an outfit for my clients that is eye catching, professional and true to their personality and my brand. I knew this was a worthwhile endeavor because I have an eye for fashion and I truly enjoy what I do. I felt that I could succeed because I an passionate about my craft.
Brock, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am 25 years old. I graduated from Detroit School of Arts. I started out with a love for dancing, but as time went on, I discovered that I was also good, if not better with fashion. I began working for Nordstrom as a salesman and I created a styling segment called “Brock’s Dressing Room Chronicles”. I used one of my co-workers as a model to style in different clothing to showcase my styling ability on social media. That idea became a stepping stone for me to get clients and build relationships with upcoming models so that I could style them for projects and content. Some of my work with the models was also featured in local magazines. I also did content for consignment store Rotate Boutique, ultimately resulting in me leaving Nordstrom and working for Swank A Posh as a Styling Assistant and Content Creator. Outside of working for Swank A Posh, I do have my own styling business called B’Taylor.
What sets me apart from others is making visions a reality. I have good fashion sense. This has to do with being able to match certain colors and patterns together to create the perfect outfit composition.
One of the projects that I am working on with my own styling company B’Taylor is being a stylist for local Detroit Rapper, Lana LaDonna. I have been able to really play with various styles with this client. She allows me to build a recognizable and appealing fashion image for her.
What I want people to know about my brand is that I am definitely an upcoming artist with so much talent. I strive to provide fashion advice, choose and coordinate outfits that will complement my client’s personality and the look that they are going for.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience from creating a styling blog called “Brocks Dressing Room Chronicles”. That was a jump start for people to see my styling ability and with that I started to get a big following on social media. The advice that I would give to others is that social media can start a very lucrative business and most importantly it can showcase your skills or talent.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to build more relationships, be able to showcase my talent in a broader spectrum. Also, to grow my business with B’Taylor accessories for men and women.
