Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bro Calvin D Tucker Jr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bro Calvin D, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned singing in church and through my family. Once I got older, my high school music teacher Mr. Miller gave me my first solo on the freshman boys chorus. It was “A Song For Mama” by Boyz ll Men. This experience helped me see what my dream would be like of actually being a professional recording artist.
During my high school career I served on 10 choirs, strengthening my voice and my event planning skills.
It wasn’t until community College at age 24 that I took voice lessons for two semesters under Barry Greenburg at the Community College of Baltimore County; Catonsville. This helped me slow my vibrato down and control my voice. I do wish I could have started in high school with voice lessons and I definitely plan to continue to take them throughout my career.
Knowing how to sing is only part of the journey. Other skills like understanding sound, microphone placement, and other technical operations helps take artistry to another level.
Then there’s becoming and understanding who you are as an artist, which was an extremely fun experience for me. It took years.
Finances would be the only thing that affected my ability to obtain certain learning resources early on.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is “Inspiration 4-All People”. My calling is to inspire and Uplift through my life and the performing arts.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have had to change directions/plans so many times as a creative. I call this part of the “Beautiful-Ugliness” of being a creative.
I tried to record certain projects that either never got finished or changed to different Visions.
I quit my regular job for 3 years and drove for 2 rideshare companies so that I could be available to build my film career, then had to go back to regular work because of the market and personal events.
Change is very necessary in our business. Unexpected change is vital to growth and keeps us on our toes.
