We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Briya Jordan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Briya , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first knew I wanted to pursue being an artist when I fell out of love with being a door to door sales agent. I did door to door sales straight out of high school for almost 2 years. At the age of 19 years old ( going on 20 ) is when I made my first song.My father watched a video of me singing my song live on instagram. He knew I had something special and then helped me pursue my music career.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi , I’m Briya Jordan. I am from Cleveland, OH born & raised. I am currently 23 years old. My whole life I’ve been connected to music.Being so young at a point of time I never realized just how big of an impact music had on me.Most of my music is inspired by the world that we ALL live in & I guess that’s why it’s so relatable.I want my fans to not feel so alone when they’re listening to me.I am also known for being the girl with the “Tears”. The Tears just represents my empathy for world, the people, my friends & family. I am most proud being able to keep pushing and keeping my tenacity through the adversity. I’m just here to let the people know , you can too!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn during my music career is that you can’t cut the corners. When you are trying to build a foundation you need to be consistent & build it brick by brick. When I first started taping to my music career. I thought that all you needed was a good song but turns there’s way more to then that. Such as promoting the music, posting video content on social media etc.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The one time I had to make a pivot in my life regarding my music career is when I decided to stop doing door to door sales and solely focus on my creative ideas. The adjustment was actually pretty easy because I found my true passion and purpose and was excited to learn more about myself & music.
