We recently connected with Brittnie Campbell and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brittnie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful: I think it takes consistency. Practicing consistently, making mistakes & learning from those help to make us better in all aspects of life both professionally, & personally. I think it takes the willingness to fail but the personal determination & commitment to yourself to keep trying to be successful in whatever you do.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a 37 year old- wife, mother of two, & business owner. I graduated from cosmetology school back in 2004 and in 2008 I decided I no longer wanted to be a stylist.
I went to college and graduated with my associates in respiratory therapy in 2010- back to college in 2015 for my bachelors in health science education and took a journey through pediatrics, and the adult world of respiratory care.
After I had my twins in 2017, 12 hour shifts were no longer for me. Though I loved helping people, I lost my passion for healthcare. I decided with a friend to start a mobile airbrush tanning business in 2019-2020, and I’ve been back in the beauty business since!
I started back to it as a lash/microblading artist (while owning an online boutique) and from there I’ve opened two salons of my own and now am an extension specialist!
The dream of long, luscious hair not too terribly long ago became a reality for me after meeting the right stylist- and then I too decided THAT would be my career! I create dream hair every time I work, and I’m still helping people by boosting their confidence, helping them regain their spark, and overall making them feel amazing!
So many people were affected by COVID hair loss, and this has been a solution for so many people. Hormonal changes sometimes also takes its toll on our hair so I can provide solutions for those ladies and help them to feel beautiful again!
I am two times certified in hair extensions and don’t plan to ever stop working to be one of the best in the business!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building a brand that’s not typical! I myself am not typical- and I didn’t want to give clientele the typical salon experience.
My decor is very different from most salons starting with old country artists photos, bull skulls, a shelf of old cowboy boots (most worn by influential people in my life) and old vintage items that some even came out of family businesses from the 70s-80s.
My space is VERY relaxed & has an amazing vibe. No one is judged there: everyone is free to be themselves & I do my best to ensure absolutely NO one walks out of my door without feeling like a million bucks!
Word of mouth has built me- there’s no doubt.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I started a few years ago making hand cut leather jewelry. That spun into a mobile boutique that my Mom & I took to local festivals which morphed into an online boutique (Facebook group) and those loyal customers are what funded my salon dreams.
My mother (Dawn) and my husband Josh helped along the way and still will drop anything to help with any issues or new ideas and visions I have with the salon weather it’s maintenance, decor changes or my random ideas to just build in a boutique in a back room on a whim!
