Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittni Dones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Brittni thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I got my Bachelors in Psychology, and once I graduated I found out there wasn’t much I could do without a graduate degree. I began working for CPS and while I was working I began Grad School. I obtained my Masters in Counseling! One of my engineer friends recommended MHMRA and I began working in the mental health field!

Brittni , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am proud of my private practice (Life’s Heartwork), excited, and grateful to be able to serve and help others. Not only do i help my clients, but i am also on building and helping other future therapists to start their journeys as well!!! I got to where I am today with a lot of resilience and perseverance. When starting your career you find yourself doing things that are more challenging, putting in long hours, you learn so much about different facets of therapy and I honed in on my skills and that helped shape me into the therapist i am today. I always say things are not easy, but simple. So no it was not easy. Some of the lessons I’ve learned today is keeping an open mind and a growth mindset, every little thing i put into today just knowing that this is for a greater good, and believing in the concept of the compound effect. Always being sure to take care of myself, recoup, because i have to be healthy for my clients. I would like the world to know that I have arrived , and that i am here for the people.
I have recently started a social project called Be Connected! My goal is to meet with 10,000 strangers for an hour each, engage in genuine conversation, and document the importance of human connection. Sign up I’d like to meet you!!
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Hands down! I would choose the same profession again!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My late fiancé completed suicide two years ago. My professional career and personal life literally collided, and I found myself surrounded with grief! My whole world stopped spinning, and I stopped my private practice, and began grief therapy for myself. Two years later I’m still here and my practice thriving more than ever.
