We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittney Young. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittney below.
Brittney, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
When I first decided to start my own catering and private chef business, I had a job. In fact, I had two jobs and was going to school part-time. I was making pretty good money, saving money and making some plans for the future. Deep down inside of me, I knew that working for someone else wasn’t my future. I knew early on that I wanted to have my own business. One day I had a deep prayer to God, to say the least, and I asked for direction. It was then I felt that it was the right time to quit my job and dove full- time into entrepreneurship. I had no clue what I was getting myself into but it was one of the biggest risk I’ve taken. I went from depending on a guaranteed pay check to hoping that I would get consistent clientele to pay my bills.

Brittney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am chef Brittney Young. A chef, creator, artist, food blogger and recipe writer. I knew that I wanted to become a chef and entrepreneur so the first thing I did was attend a culinary arts school. I wanted to have a vast variety of experience in the culinary field so upon graduating culinary school, I decided to work in fine dining. After my time working in fine dining, I was able to work side by side with celebrity chef and gain even more knowledge of being an independent chef entrepreneur.
I’m not afraid to put myself out there and be a student. I’m most proud of my desire to go after what I want and make a impact on people at the same time. I love what I do!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Being consistent is the most effective strategy for growing clientele. Providing consistent quality work markets itself!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What has helped build my reputation so far is giving people what they asked for. Doing the job that people have paid me to do. Finding new ways to meet my customer’s expectations. I receive new clients everyday because someone referred them to me. That shows how well the reputation for my business is so far!
