We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittney Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s go back in time a bit – can you share a story of a time when you learned an important lesson during your education?
Although my parents taught my siblings and I different aphorisms, values and morals in our tight knit, homeschooled environment, it wasn’t until my transition to a private high school that I could actually perceive and resonate with the concept of core values. There were 7 core values total, and the one that has stuck with me through time is mutual respect, support, and trust. When i think about my connection to Self and with others, this core value is what i come back to. It’s a solid foundation to build, to create and to maintain. Whenever I am out of alignment or out of integrity, this core value is what brings me back to my truest and purest intentions of cooperation, receptivity and reciprocity.

Brittney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Brittney W. I’m a 30 something y/o yogi, entrepreneur and first time mom to an amazing 2 m/o baby boy named Indigo. I’ve been pet sitting for friends since college, and after a career shift in 2019, decided to pursue pet sitting on a professional level. I Howl At The Moon For Fun had grown so much since its inception, and has since contracted with a wonderful group of kind, trustworthy sitters who are excellent with animals. We offer pup boarding, 3 types of drop-in visits (30 min, 45 min, 1 hour long hangouts), and in-client home overnight pet sitting. We provide services mostly to dogs and cats, but also accept small animals and fish clients. Our core values are Integrity, Authenticity and Magic. Clients can trust us to show up and give our best selves during each service and to communicate when the expected and the unexpected happen. Creating healthy and lasting relationships with those in our community is important to us (and that point of connection is where the magic happens).

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of biggest lessons that I’ve had to unlearn is an old narrative that I did not belong and I should fear being myself in certain surroundings. Being a dark brown chocolate Goddess, I’ve been raised to be extremely aware of my surroundings, first as a woman but secondly as a brown woman. Many of the neighborhoods where I provide services have residents that do not look like me. I used to experience some anxiety and fear about walking dogs in the evenings and going into clients homes for fear of neighbors or police being suspicious of me. I didnt like how this made me feel while doing a job that I loved. I knew i had to change that frequency and belief. The only way I was able to unlearn this behavior was by continuing to show up to do the work I felt called to do in the areas that it led me. I repeated the mantra “i am safe” while taking deep breaths and relaxing my mind and body.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I really do enjoy what i do, and i think it shows in the quality of my work. Being consistent, showing up, practicing open communication, and having a willingness to learn from each of my clients have helped me build a solid reputation.
