We recently connected with Brittney Powell and have shared our conversation below.
Brittney, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
When I first tried to get into Walmart stores it took me over a year. I got so discouraged. Every time I got close something else came up. I threw in the towel basically. I called my father and he said to me “Brittney if this is your dream see it through “. That gave me the push I needed and I ended up making history as the first African American Woman Sole Proprietor on Walmart. Com. If I hadn’t seen it through I would have missed my moment in history and forfeited my place to someone else. Never allow distractions to stray you away from your pre destined path
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have been in business now about 15 years. I have a skincare line, cosmetic line, clothing line and a weightloss pill I invented.
My number 1 sellers are my weightloss pills and my scent infused shea butter
Recently I have been featured in a few tv roles and game shows. So now I help manage others who want to take their career to the next level
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was selling shea butter from a guy in Atlanta. He ended up taking my money and blocking my phone number. I had pre orders and didn’t know what to do! So I found a store bought the shea in bulk and kept playing around until I found the consistency I wanted and now it’s the #1 product I sell and was forced to learn how to make On my own
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I saved my income tax refund check two years in a row and started my business. They took them the year before for student loans. So I said to myself I can make it without it and saved it two years in a row
