We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittney Newton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittney below.
Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is simple, to help women who look and feel like me feel beautiful. As a plus-size woman who deals with depression, I often feel like I’m the other person who suffers from the things I suffer from. Although I am proud of the way I look, there are some days where I don’t like myself or feel self-conscious about my weight. The world always feels the need to comment on women’s weight and my brand is about giving the finger to those people. My brand screams “Yes I’m plus-size and hell yes I’m fine”! The more transparent I am about the struggles I have with my weight and my mental health, the better I feel. It’s not always easy to speak publicly about such sensitive subjects but knowing there are others that deal with the same things I deal with really helps me. My ultimate goal is to build a community of women who want to share these stories to help them on their own healing journeys. My own healing journey has been a rollercoaster, but my work is a way to express my emotions.
Brittney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a professional plus-size model, content creator and brand ambassador. My brand is #YourFavPlusSizeModel and it’s my baby. Modeling came into my life when I needed something creative to put my time into after my father passed away in 2020. I’ve always wanted to model as a child, but I thought it was impossible but I’m very..like 5’0, 5’1 on a good day. For my clients, I make their brands POP! I serve as the model to bring their products to life, in a big way. I believe my transparency is what sets me apart from others. I’m transparent about my how I feel about my body and the mental health issues. I’m everyone’s favorite because I don’t pretend to have it all together, I’m the relatable model. I am very proud of the work I’ve done as a model from working with Swank A Posh Boutique to being a brand ambassador for Torrid. I’ve been blessed to work with a lot of brands and build relationships with amazing people. My brand does more than afford me the opprotunity to showcase amazing clothes, it gives me a chance to show women who look like me or who feel like me that they are beautiful no matter what size they are.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For me to build my clientele, I did a lot of research on brands that I wanted to work with. Starting out, I would send about 10 emails a day to different brands that I wanted to work with. Being a model is different than running a business that provides tangible products, however, that’s how I marketed my brand. I have a website that I pushed as my portfolio. I also had days where I would visit different boutiques around the city and leave my business cards. Networking was a very big part of building the clientele that I have now.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I look at my clients as family, so I reach out to them often just to see how business and life is going. Building authentic relationships with your clients builds brand loyalty. Aside from that, interacting with their content on social media is a great way to keep in touch with them and help their brands grow.
