Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittney McCurry-Wingate. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittney , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Legacy is important to me. I am the oldest of six girls, and I have built my drive and determination foundation off creating a blueprint for my siblings and other young women pursuing business careers. We live in a male-dominated society, so it is important that women continue to strive to break barriers by operating in a spirit of excellence in their careers. I hope to leave a footprint that entices individuals to pursue change, to speak up for what is right and not what is popular. People will always be able to say Brittney was consistent, she was fair, and she believed in integrity. Remember, my character and my actions will speak for themselves.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Brittney Wingate, an experienced Human Resource advocate and change agent. After obtaining my Master of Human Resource Management from Troy University and my Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification, I led HR management in several positions, including On-Premise Manager for a Fortune 500 Recruiting & Staffing Company, Team Relations Specialist for a Top Tier 1 Automotive company, and the first African American HR Manager for a Food & Beverage Company since 1906.
After years of laboring with helping employees and managers but always feeling like more could be done, I established The Region: HR Consulting firm. The Region HR Consulting Firm is the first minority and woman-owned full-service human resource firm in Alabama that focuses on the complete employee life cycle model. Our mission is to bring a unique and cost-effective approach to the culture of human resources by providing a solace tactic in engagement to retain an organization’s most valuable asset. We offer services in six focus areas: strategy, recruitment, onboarding, development and training, retainment, and evolution. We also provide employee relations services, focus group facilitation, and resume and interview preparation. We aim to bridge the gap in the employee life cycle by providing professional, objective, and results-oriented services tailored to meet the organization’s needs.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Every successful business social media campaign starts with a solid strategy. I first determined who my target audience was and selected the social media platforms where those audience members engage. For my business, it was Facebook, Linkedin, and Tiktok. I then developed the brand messaging and format to fit each platform to include my business description, header graphics, profile pictures, and other profile information to ensure the Search Engine Optimization for my platforms was at the highest standard. After creating each business page, I created an introductory post about the business to pin to the profile. This allows any new followers to immediately learn about the business once they come to my business page. After that, I invited friends on each platform to follow my business pages through direct requests and posting on my personal pages. With consistent posting, my platform audiences have continued to grow organically over time.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After working in the corporate sector for more than a decade, I realized that I could do more and wanted to do more for people when it came to Human Resources. At the end of 2022, I decided to step out on faith to start my own HR firm. My business model was one that has never been done before in the way I wanted to do it, so I had very little to compare to. I had no business loans, grant funds, or other government assistance to start my business, so I fully financed it myself. I had an uphill battle starting off and had no idea what I was getting myself into. Still, I trusted God, believed in myself, and remained resilient. I am now fully up and running with clients, an office, and several recognitions in less than a year of establishing my business including being recognized in the inaugural 40 under 40 for the City of Montgomery, Alabama.
