Brittney, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

I started out only making soap, from making soap my friends suggested I make candles as well. I researched and studied and read books!! Self taught myself that’s what makes it so special to me.

Okay! Hello, my name is Brittney Maclin-Freeman. I am 33 from Detroit,Michigan I am a mother of one and a newlywed! I am the owner and creator of Belita Glow Soaps and Candles. I have been in business two years. My brand started out with soap but soon the business branched into candles, soap, body oils, and body cremes. My main goal was to make natural products for my skin as I suffered from acne and hyperpigmentation. I did not want to keep buying over the counter products that didn’t help, or if the products did help it would have extremely harsh cancer killing ingredients. So i created my own skin care line and it has cleared my skin as well as my customers! Once my friend suggested I make candles because my soaps smelled so good! So I researched how to videos etc and now I can’t imagine not making candles! I love creating aromatic scents it makes people happy!! That makes me happy! I just love how long lasting and how even my candes burn. I love how peaceful they make my home. I just honestly get motivated to keep giving my customers whatever they want. Customer service is everything to me! My proudest moments are being able to send my products to my favorite social media influencer and becoming well connected with people I admire who now, admire and respect my work just the same!!! Shout out to Ajna Surah ! She does the best reviews of my products and always brings me more customers!! Second proud moment was being apart of Londons fashion week! Being invited to actually travel out the country!!! To be able to be featured is amazing! Currently my business is on a hiatus until i can come back fully stocked and ready for the new year!! Starting a new business is hard especially with no hand outs no loans just out of my pocket. I’ve learned/learning a lot. Its fun and I just have to always remind myself to be patient with myself and my goals. Remember every step is still a step! Remembering the goal… provide goods not just make money.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The most rewarding is creating a product that is worthy!!! Great quality smells amazing and to listen to people who I admire and love admire and love me back!! As long as I can heal peoples skin, make them smile or feel good… im happy! Im grateful! Im at peace.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

The goal is to be more IN the business and not so much just working ON the products. I told myself I have a following of supporters, I have a great product that works well! I just have to learn how to get myself out there focus on making it look better to match its quality.
