Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittney Kelsey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
If I could go back in time , I wish I would have started my business sooner. I started my photography business in 2020. During this time I was still working as a health care provider from 2015 to currently. I stayed working countless hours on the ambulance for 24-72 hours. On top of working on the ambulance , I was also working in the ER and attending college. I am a mother of a 7 & 8 year old; that alone made me work harder. The downfall of it , I miss special moments of my children life being gone all the time. I pick up a camera in 2020 and started bringing in fluid income that would have took me weeks to get on full time job. I definitely would have started this long ago to take some of the stress of providing off of me.
Brittney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Mother, Photographer, Pharmacy Tech, and a Health care provider. After eight years of being in the medical field, I became a photographer. I didn’t set out to be a photographer. I was a paramedic working at Methodist Germantown ER. I always had a passion for modeling and wanted to dabble in it. One afternoon, I found a photography studio called Red Banks Media. There I inquire about learning how to take professional photos. My mentor has shown me the way of photography. Now, it has become a rewarding career for me. I love photography because of the opportunities to document reality in creative ways. It is my way to visually express my desire to see art and beauty in all things. My work consists of photojournalism, fashion, portraits, abstracts, and many creative forms of art. I offer many services such as Professional headshots, family photos, birthdays, branding, events, weddings, and more! I always have consulted with my customers on their vision for their special occasion. I believe in creating a memorable experience for my customers while shooting with me. Mostly have fun and be filled with Joy!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have a made a big pivot in my life when it came to being more responsible , honest, transparent , and go getting . I met 2 people that I am grateful for that made me get more serious about my life. I was content doing my 9-5 and get my check and go home. I thought I was not smart nor powerful enough to do great things. Once I realize what I could do and was excelling at it. Once I had a full out solid plan, I let go of my full time to peruse my photography career. God been caring and blessing me to be financially stable and provide for my family and help others.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that I wasn’t worth it. Most of my life I was made to feel I had nothing to offer anybody nor myself. I stayed tearing myself down along with others that was hurting me mentally. I had to first recognize who I was in Christ. I had to remember I am a royalty and God planted specials gifts in me. I had unlearn that people cannot define who I am or my worth. Must always love myself and honor myself .
