We were lucky to catch up with Brittney Holmes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittney, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
Photography has been a driving force in my life, shaping both my personal passions and professional pursuits from an early age. During my undergraduate years, I explored event photography—capturing live performances and conducting artist interviews for two publications between 2009 and 2012. Following this period, I committed myself fully to the study and practice of architecture.
The decision to establish my own studio was born from a profoundly personal experience. After the loss of a loved one, I sought a meaningful outlet to process my grief and channel my creativity. This journey led to the founding of Atelier Holmes—a creative studio built on the principles of intention, connection, and purposeful storytelling.
Photography is more than a medium; it is a powerful tool for connecting with people and capturing extraordinary moments. Through Atelier Holmes, this vision has grown into a collaborative platform—working alongside like-minded creatives and becoming part of our clients’ most treasured life events.
From curating editorial photoshoots inspired by weddings, to documenting bridal fashion week in New York, and honoring each couple’s unique project vision; every pursuit reflects a deep commitment to creativity, connection, and storytelling. As Atelier Holmes continues to evolve, it remains rooted in a client-centered philosophy—expanding into new creative territories while staying true to our core values.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Atelier Holmes offers digital photography services with a focus on weddings, events, and bridal fashion. As our studio grows, we’re excited to expand into offering film photography and Super 8 video—an evolution inspired by two heirloom cameras that add to our storytelling tool kit.
Our style blends gentle posing, candid moments, flash, natural light, and intentional composition to celebrate genuine emotions, environment and design. We take a collaborative, client-focused approach—developing personalized look books, curated timelines, and mood boards to ensure a cohesive visual narrative across every celebration; including everything from engagement parties to multi-day weddings moments. From fashion editorials to intimate ceremonies, we bring a consistent artistic perspective to each project by documenting every detail to honor the thoughtful planning and design.
At our core, we are dedicated to serving our clients and loved ones—with professionalism, creativity, and heartfelt attention throughout their wedding journey.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Working across photography and design opens up meaningful opportunities to travel, connect with like-minded creatives, and engage in purpose-driven work. The ever-evolving nature of the creative field makes it especially fulfilling—offering a platform to explore new ideas and pursuits that continually shape and enrich our practice and dreams. I especially love the energy of bringing together talented teams to produce and photograph wedding-inspired bridal editorials—where creativity, collaboration, and celebration come together.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Sometimes there seems to be a reluctance to accept that pursuing multiple creative disciplines can coexist within a single professional practice. I’ve noticed some resistance when describing our studio as multidisciplinary—as if creativity must be confined to one path. Photography and design are not hobbies, it’s a lifestyle and an integral part of how I communicate, create and deliver work. Yet, it can be challenging for others to distinguish between professional pursuits and what they may perceive as passion projects. While I understand we can’t do everything at once, these disciplines have always informed and enriched each other in my creative process. At the end of the day, the misconception isn’t that serious and creatives alike will keep on.
