Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittney Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
Family business is extremely important to me. I have been around family-owned business all my life and have always wanted to start my own. My great-grandfather owned his own tool store. I watched and helped my father with his plumbing business. Watching my father and going with him to jobs helped shape my childhood and my view on working and entrepreneurship. He taught me how to be resilient and a go getter no matter what the situation is. Since I have created my business, I make sure that I take my kids with me on jobs, so they understand what all it takes to run a business for themselves.

Brittney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brittney Shamia Hernandez and I’m The Trusty Notary! My business was born from the pandemic when my life, like everyone else’s changed. In October 2020 I started The Trusty Notary a mobile notary service. In the beginning I was doing loan signings and general notary work. In April 2021 Tennesse passed a law stating that notaries could solemnize marriages. I jumped on this opportunity and have been doing mostly wedding ever since.
Being able to perform wedding has been the calling I never knew I had. I really enjoy bringing couples together and allowing them to have the ceremony they want. Alot of people now a days don’t have a traditional church home or place to have a wedding. With my service I will meet the couple at whatever venue, park, home, area that they would prefer to perform their ceremony.
I think that what makes me different is that I try to focus on the couples and help them to create a ceremony that they can remember. I try to make my process as stress free as possible. I’m proud that I have married over 150 couples since I started in July 2021. I have married couples in jail, parking lots, courthouses, library, on bridges, under bridges, parks, wedding venues, backyards, living room and even in the car!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me is word of mouth. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done a wedding and then gotten a call from a person at the wedding later in the week for me to do officiate their wedding. For me this is the best way to see that my approach and style is working and really resonates with people. I really appreciate that people can see how serious I take my job. I make sure I carry business cards with me everywhere I go for this specific reason.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients on social media. I have created a Facebook group for all my couples to interact with each other and me to get ideas on their upcoming wedding and just to connect with other brides/grooms. Majority of my couples are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tiktok so I get to see them and stay in touch after the wedding. I really enjoy seeing how all the couples are doing.
I’m very active with my notary clients on social media as well. I interact with them on social media and am in the process of building my following by trying to post meaningful and interesting content. I try to post content relevant to my community, notary and entrepreneurship information.
