Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittney Green. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brittney , appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Drawing and art in general has been a very natural skill for me. I’ve been drawing consistently since I was 3, so I’m not really sure how I could have accelerated the learning process. As far as comics go, I’ve been making those only within the past few years, my first official comic came out in 2017. The learning for comics has been a lot more different and fun in finding my style more along with storytelling. I honestly hope I can be in a point where I can really focus on developing these skills, that is having more time to put into the art.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a freelance artist and comic illustrator. I make my own comic series by creating all the art and writing them. I also help others with their visions as well. I am also the illustrator for other writers ! I’ve drawn their entire comics and /or made their character designs. I’ve drawn up character designs for several indie comics, and show concepts. I’ve also contributed my work to a short film project for ‘make a wish’. Threw out the years, I’ve done a mixed variety of work both freelance and professional. From making character designs for aspiring creators/ writers, to storyboarding for short film and commercial, painting murals, realism portraits, newspaper/ magazine article illustrations and much more. I work with both digital and traditional mediums opening my avenue for variety for my clients. I do love to push my skills and broaden my mediums to see how far I can take my art. I am still trying to figure out and get everything together to make my own brand/company.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love this, but I have two answers to this question. Firstly I love making art and creating stories but I don’t do it completely for myself. God gave me this gift and I want t give it back to him in using my talent to draw others to his kingdom! I like to make thought provoking story concepts that will give others another lease to think through. I also want others to learn of God threw my artwork as well in one way or another. I also would love my art to affect people positively by taking them through fun or intense stories along side vivid characters. Seeing or hearing joy that my art gives another is so rewarding, whether it’s either seeing their face light up, or teaches them some new or valuable. It’s also rewarding simply handling the final project. Usually art projects, like creating an entire comic book or detailed painting takes quite a bit of time, and energy. Boy, howdy is it rewarding finally seeing and feeling your finished work.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
This goes along with the previous question. I love God, his word and I’m incredibly thankful for Jesus’ work. I want that to guide all aspects in my art. Whether it’s artfully subtle or very blatant I want his guide. He is the reasons I keep going even if no one else sees me. And if my work can effects one positively then it’s all worth it. I really do enjoy the process and growth in my art and how it’s helped me grow and learn. I constantly push myself to do/ be better in it. There’s so pleasure in watching your characters slowly come more and more to life engaging in a compelling story. Seeing all the bricks fall together.
