We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittney Bjay Lawrence a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brittney Bjay thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve been singing since I was 3 years old, I was always listening to music it calmed me it excited me I could learn a song in minutes, I would wake up singing, my aunt thought that I was writing love letters to boys but they were songs, I always have Melodies in my head and I just put lyrics to them music keeps me sane at this point.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Brittney “Bjay” Lawrence I’m a singer song writer, born in San Diego CA, raised in Birmingham al and Port Allen LA. I’ve been singing and recording since the age of 12. Professionally put music out in 2018 with my first single called “Maybe” produced and mixed by Brian “Bflat” Cooke. Since then I’ve dropped a few more singles and an EP “Queen of hearts” which next year I’m turning into an album, I recently released my first southern soul song “Put yo Drawls Back on” visual is out as well on my YouTube

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I use to just wanna be noticed for my music and become rich and famous. But I wanna leave a mark within in music, I don’t wanna be known for one genre I wanna be the artist that is the voice of Music, I am music, I will say that I wish I would’ve taken piano lessons earlier an vocal coaching to perfect my craft so that when I started releasing music I would have a more unique sound, for years I’ve made it a point to make sure I don’t sound like any other artist I want my own sound, that’s what some artist lack they don’t try to be unique never be comparable to other artist become your own sound.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve been performing since 2018 open mics traveling from Alabama to Florida Louisiana Mississippi newyork Atlanta etc just when I feel I wanna give up I get that breakthrough or that fan who say they love my music and it gives me the courage to keep going, I remember performing at a brunch event my friends and support system bailed didn’t show up and my dancers were late couldn’t make it I was literally in tears until I got that stage and performed my tail off, I’ll
Always do what needs to be done when it comes to this music.
