We recently connected with Brittney Anderson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew that I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally once I did my first professional photoshoot. I enjoyed the process of getting my makeup, hair and nails done and finding the perfect outfit. When I got on set I found myself feeling like I was in a whole new world, a world and creative environment that I had been missing out on. Once I completed my first photoshoot I knew that being a plus model & influencer was for me. It was meant for me to do this professionally and not look back.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi everyone,
I am B.Mechele. I was introduced into the plus modeling industry by one of my close friends who is like a sister to me “Sweet Kay”. She always told me you should model, you are beautiful sis and you can do it! I was always so shy and nervous but one day she gave me the information to a model casting call in February of 2022 with Arita Lashon and the rest was history. I was so shocked that I got selected. I couldn’t believe that this was my first model call and I was chosen. I had my first professional photoshoot with BigMuvasHouse in April 2022 which was amazing. I have been modeling and taking professional photos since. I have to say that I am so proud of myself for taking that leap of faith and stepping outside of my comfort zone. Modeling is something that I’ve always wanted to do but never knew how to get into it and was too shy to do it. My family, friends, followers/supporters know that I put my best foot forward with the content that I put out. I invest in my craft knowing that this will pay off in the long run. I get so much love and support from all of them on the daily and that lets me know that I’m doing something right and this is meant to be. I am B.Mechele and my brand is built off of my name and staying true to myself. I challenge myself daily to step outside of my comfort zone when it comes to creating and producing great content.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to become a well-known and paid plus model. I want to be on build boards across the world and in campaigns for major clothing brands. I want to be in a position where I am financially stable and can provide for my family. As a plus model my mission is to show those who are plus size that they can be anything that they want to be no matter what shape or size that they are. Teaching others that self love is the best love is so important to me. I want to not only touch those in my community but around the world. Society has set this standard on not only what our lives should be but what we should look like. I want show them that you can still thrive in this world with being plus size and break barriers for people who look like me. The plus size industry and community has grown and alot of people have started to accept us for who we are but I feel like we have a long way to go and I am here to help change that.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media can be hard sometimes. I remember being stuck at 1,000-2,000 followers for many years. Once I started modeling and taking clear professional photos my audience on Instagram started to grow instantly. I couldn’t believe it. I started to focus on creating content such as reels and even taking great quality pictures on my phone from home. I love using hashtags that are relevant to me as a plus model, influencer and ambassador. You have to pay attention to what content your followers like and also find your niche. It’s also important to pay attention to what’s trending on social media. I always like to see what content is trending on Instagram but make it my own. I try not to focus on the amount of followers I have but to focus on the content that I put out which will help build my followers. If you are trying to build your following on social media stay consistent with posting, find your niche, put out great quality work and use relevant hashtags. Also, its important to engage with other pages, leave comments, etc. and engage with your followers who leave comments.
