We recently connected with Brittnee and Doyle Hinkle and have shared our conversation below.
Brittnee and Doyle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Our first album, “Ghosts”, was released in 2020. From the beginning, we’ve said that we want to reach people through our sound who wouldn’t typically be interested in Christian music or even really hearing about Jesus. We hope to be relatable and approachable to non believers. But we also want to target the Christian audience by creating music they can also relate to and love. “Ghosts” has a unique sound, something you wouldn’t typically hear in the christian sound waves- meshing modern worship with a hint of 70’s rock vibes. It ended up charting at #22 in “Top Christian Albums” on ITunes. We are currently working towards our second album release, “Worship is my Weapon” which is happening this fall. Heavily themed around spiritual warfare, this album continues our unique blend of styles with an added hint of the 80’s, utilizing synthesizers and drum machines. We call it “modern worship meets Stranger Things”. Our music is available everywhere that streams music. Be sure to give us a follow to stay in the loop on our upcoming “Worship is my Weapon” release.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are Brittnee and Doyle, a husband and wife indie Christian band from Asheboro, N.C. How we have evolved musically is actually quite interesting. We both grew up with a heavy foundation in Blue Grass, Gospel, and Western Swing. We even had a really cool opportunity to open up for Vince Gill a few years back, along with a friend who is also rooted in country. We met as teenagers through a classic rock band Doyle played guitar in and Brittnee guest sang with. And now, we are playing on our church worship team on Sundays and writing our own Christian music. We call ourselves an indie Christian band because we don’t really fit the mold for what you hear on mainstream Christian radio. We sing about Jesus but our sound is heavy, retro, and synthy.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to share what comes from our hearts and minds both spiritually and creatively is a very vulnerable thing. Yet, it’s so rewarding at the same time because it’s yours and only yours-something you can be proud of because of all the hard work and investment you put into it creating it from the ground up. It makes it more special to us because our music is something we’ve created together. And though we are very different creatively, we have learned to mesh so well together in our writing. The most important thing though is realizing our music is not just solely about us. We hope to point people to Jesus through it.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
We hope to one day be able to create and play music full time. The recording process is surely a cool experience, but there is also nothing like the rush of playing live shows. The feeling you get when you are targeting the enemy with your lyrics and telling him he has no place here and that Jesus holds all the power is an adrenaline rush like no other. Our dream is to go on the road with John Mark McMillan. He has been a huge influence from the beginning.
